This is preliminary, not a tested treatment.
- SLPQualitative2019Making the future together: Shaping autism research through meaningful participation.Autism : the international journal of research and practiceAutistic people and allies said autism research should be shaped by autistic people from the start, not only as participants. Five themes emerged: respect, authenticity, challenging assumptions, infrastructure, and empathy.
- OTCohort2019Bidirectional relationships between bullying, victimization and emotion experience in boys with and without autism.Autism : the international journal of research and practiceIn autistic boys, higher anger and lower guilt tracked with more later bullying, while victimization tracked with more anger and fear. Fear was linked to victimization more strongly in boys without autism. These are links, not treatment effects.
- PTCohort2018Economic value of orthotic and prosthetic services among medicare beneficiaries: a claims-based retrospective cohort study, 2011-2014.Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitationLower-limb prosthesis users had total Medicare payments similar to matched non-users. Lower-limb and spinal orthosis users had lower total payments, and prosthesis users had fewer hospitalizations.
- PTOther2018Energy storing and return prosthetic feet improve step length symmetry while preserving margins of stability in persons with transtibial amputation.Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitationIn 15 men with transtibial prostheses, ESAR feet increased push-off work and made intact steps longer, improving step length symmetry. A stability measure at toe-off was unchanged, so symmetry improved without a measured loss of stability.
- OTSurvey2018They Don't Care About Us! Care Personnel's Perspectives on Ambient Assisted Living Technology Usage: Scenario-Based Survey Study.JMIR rehabilitation and assistive technologiesCare staff imagined an ambient assisted living system and mostly accepted emergency-related monitoring, but rejected cameras, microphones, and routine monitoring. Disabled people’s care staff were least accepting.

Because only treated cases were reported, prednisolone cannot be shown to have caused the improvement.
- PTOTSLPSystematic Review2018Physical Therapy Management of Congenital Muscular Torticollis: A 2018 Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline From the APTA Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy.Pediatric physical therapy : the official publication of the Section on Pediatrics of the American Physical Therapy AssociationStart physical therapy within the first month of life for infants with congenital muscular torticollis. This guideline emphasizes that early intervention leads to faster resolution and reduces the need for surgery, while recommending a comprehensive approach that includes parent education and environmental adaptations.
- PTOTCohort2018Improved quality of life following constraint-induced movement therapy is associated with gains in arm use, but not motor improvement.Topics in stroke rehabilitationAfter constraint-induced movement therapy, better daily use of the weaker arm tracked with better quality of life. Objective motor test gains did not track the same way, so carry-over into everyday tasks may matter more than test scores alone.
- RCT2018Impact of Pathways Triple P on Pediatric Health-Related Quality of Life in Maltreated Children.Journal of developmental and behavioral pediatrics : JDBPChildren in child welfare cases who received a 14-week home parenting program reported quality of life more than 6 points higher than children receiving usual services. Parents also reported higher scores.

In a simple eye-tracking task, spoken cues could update expectations about a hidden scene.
- SLPQualitative2019Neurodivergent intersubjectivity: Distinctive features of how autistic people create shared understanding.Autism : the international journal of research and practiceAutistic adults playing video games together often shifted topics and assumed shared cultural references. These moves could fragment conversation, but also build humour and rapport quickly. Apparent miscoordination may be a different way of relating.
- PTNarrative Review2018Powered ankle-foot orthoses: the effects of the assistance on healthy and impaired users while walking.Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitationPowered ankle-foot orthoses can reduce walking effort in healthy lab users, but effects vary by device and person. Evidence is sparse for impaired walkers, so do not expect a standard clinical benefit.
- PTOther2018Body Position Affects Ultrasonographic Measurement of Diaphragm Contractility.Cardiopulmonary physical therapy journalDiaphragm ultrasound measurements changed significantly when healthy young adults moved from lying down to sitting and standing. A physical therapist with minimal training achieved excellent reliability. However, this study only tested healthy people, so it does not yet show how position affects diaphragm function in ICU patients.
- OTOther2018Relationship between frontal assessment battery scores and activities of daily living/instrumental activities of daily living ability in older adults.Journal of physical therapy scienceHigher FAB scores were strongly related to higher ADL/IADL functional age in 85 Japanese older adults. Mean FAB score was 9.1 points and mean functional age was 6.3 years, but this is association, not proof.
- SLPCohort2018Oral microbiome activity in children with autism spectrum disorder.Autism research : official journal of the International Society for Autism ResearchSaliva microbial activity differed between children with autism and typical or developmentally delayed children. Some patterns tracked communication and gut problems, not ADHD or daily living. This is an association, not a test of treatment.
- PTCohort2018The risk of major cardiovascular events for adults with transfemoral amputation.Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitationOverall, adults with transfemoral amputation were no more likely to have a major cardiovascular event than matched controls, but those with dysvascular amputation had a four-fold higher risk. Prosthesis was not associated with a difference in cardiovascular event risk.

The early fast change was not a good marker of reduced impairment; only the slower change was associated with Fugl-Meyer score improvement. Initial exoskeleton scores are poor recovery markers.
- PTNarrative Review2018Wearable Movement Sensors for Rehabilitation: A Focused Review of Technological and Clinical Advances.PM & R : the journal of injury, function, and rehabilitationWearable movement sensors can track gait and activity outside clinics, but their clinical use is uneven and many devices lack validation. Check the specific sensor before relying on it.
- SLPCohort2018The autism spectrum phenotype in ADNP syndrome.Autism research : official journal of the International Society for Autism ResearchIn ADNP syndrome, all eleven participants had intellectual disability, but only seven met autism criteria. Social communication severity tracked verbal IQ, and repetitive sensory-motor behavior stood out.
- PTOTOther2018Factors influencing the physical activity in daily life of male patients with different levels of severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.Journal of physical therapy scienceFactors linked to daily steps differed by COPD stage. A daily routine went with higher steps at every stage; stage 4 also tracked mood and quality of life. Daily steps themselves did not differ clearly across stages.
- PTOTNarrative Review2018Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for Poststroke Motor Recovery: Challenges and Opportunities.PM & R : the journal of injury, function, and rehabilitationtDCS is not ready for routine poststroke motor recovery. The review says efficacy data are mixed, optimal dose is unclear, and patient selection, safety, and trial design issues remain.
- PTRCT2018The effects of mirror neuron system-based self-observation training on lower limb muscle activity and dynamic balance in patients with chronic stroke.Journal of physical therapy scienceAdding video self-observation to general rehabilitation increased lower limb muscle activity and improved timed walking and balance tests more than general rehabilitation alone, in chronic stroke patients who could walk without assistance.
