Nursing & health sciences Home-based support for caregivers of relatives with advanced illness showed mixed short-term benefits. Interventions improved preparedness and reduced burden in some studies, but effects on depression, anxiety, and quality of life were inconsistent or faded over time. RN Qualitative 2025 Barriers and Equity in Paid Parental Leave: Insights from Diverse Postpartum Experiences in Connecticut. Journal of midwifery & women's health Postpartum women said paid leave helped recovery but 12 weeks felt short, benefits were hard to find, and workplace stigma pressured early return. Nurses can discuss leave eligibility and help with applications during prenatal and postpartum care. RN Other 2026 The Role of Advance Care Planning on Community Dwelling Adults' Coping Abilities and Death Attitudes: A Sequential Mixed-Methods Study. Journal of clinical nursing Community-dwelling adults who had completed advance care planning had similar attitudes about death to those who had not. They reported better coping with death, describing relief that family knew their wishes, though some still feared death. RN Pilot 2025 E-Cigarette Use Prevention Among Youth. International journal of addiction nursing A nurse-led presentation increased e-cigarette knowledge in 24 adults who work with youth, but it did not test whether this changed youth vaping. Adults most commonly missed that e-cigarettes produce aerosol, not vapor, and that one pod holds nicotine equal to two packs of cigarettes. RN Cohort 2025 Social Connectedness and Successful Nursing Home Discharge After Heart Failure Hospitalization. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association In veterans after heart failure hospitalization who entered skilled nursing care, staff-rated high social connectedness was linked to successful community discharge within 90 days. It was an association, not proof that boosting connection causes better discharge. RN Cohort 2025 Racial and Rural Disparities in Stroke Discharge Disposition Stratified by 90-Day Survival Status. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Black, Hispanic, and other-race stroke patients who died during hospitalization or within 90 days after discharge were less likely than non-Hispanic White patients to be discharged to hospice or other care. Among longer survivors, no clear race or rurality differences appeared. RN Qualitative 2025 A Family Camp for Families Where a Parent Experiences Mental Health Challenges: A Qualitative Evaluation. International journal of mental health nursing Parents and children said a weekend Family Camp combining family activities, peer connection, creative play and nature gave them time to connect and talk about mental health, but parents found it emotionally exhausting. This reports experiences, not measured effects. RN Survey 2024 Comparative Study of Diabetes Knowledge, Attitudes, Family Support, Self-efficacy, and Self-management Behaviors Between Cancer Survivors With Diabetes and Diabetes Patients Without Cancer. Cancer nursing Cancer survivors with diabetes reported less diabetes knowledge, less family support, and lower uptake of eye and HbA1c tests than patients without cancer. Self-efficacy did not differ significantly. RN Other 2026 Research Priorities for Nursing and Allied Health: A Priority-Setting Project Using a Partnership Approach. These are nursing and allied health research priorities, not tested care changes. RN Systematic Review 2026 Community-Based Initiatives to Improve Maternal and Newborn Health in High-Income Settings: A Mixed-Methods Systematic Review. Journal of midwifery & women's health Peer support in high-income countries consistently improves maternal mental health and breastfeeding rates, with 9 of 10 studies showing benefit. Social support alone is often ineffective, but gains value when combined with health education. Women valued connectedness and practical information. PT RN Other 2025 Assessment of Fall Risk in Community-Dwelling Older Adults Using the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries Algorithm. Nursing open STEADI screening found 59.6% of community older adults at fall risk, versus 39.5% by questionnaire alone. Physical tests added mobility, balance, and strength concerns. Participants set goals for safety and exercise. RN Narrative Review 2025 The Relevance of Sustainability and the Climate Crisis to the Nursing Profession and Nursing Education: A Literature Review. Nurses often have variable knowledge and do not fully understand their potential role in addressing these health impacts, highlighting a gap in education and practice. RN Other 2025 Characterizing symptom clusters for older adults with urinary incontinence in home healthcare. Geriatric nursing (New York, N.Y.) Most home healthcare episodes for older adults with urinary incontinence had no tracked symptoms documented. When symptoms appeared, anxiety, dizziness, constipation, and a complex all-symptom cluster emerged; dizziness-anxiety was tied to a history of two or more falls. RN Survey 2025 Adherence to a Heart-Healthy Lifestyle: Testing of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model. The Journal of cardiovascular nursing Heart-healthy motivation was associated with adherence to a heart-healthy lifestyle. Diet and exercise confidence also helped. Heart facts alone were not linked to adherence after motivation and confidence were considered, and were linked to lower exercise confidence. Journal of advanced nursing Older adults racialized as Black described community and societal resources such as schools, healthcare, housing, and community groups as safeguarding, empowering, or restoring them across life. Financial support, home modifications, and hospice care were part of these accounts. RN Systematic Review 2026 Scoping Review of Sexual and Gender Minority Health Research in Ireland. Journal of advanced nursing Irish sexual and gender minority health research is narrow: most studies cover gay and bisexual men, adults, mental health and HIV. Nurses may see patients report stigma, hidden identities, misgendering and barriers to care. RN Survey 2026 Perceptions of Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People on General Health Care in the Being LGBTQI+ in Ireland Study. Journal of advanced nursing Trans and gender non-conforming patients in Ireland reported significantly poorer self-rated health and far more negative interactions with clinicians than cisgender peers, including misgendering and invasive questioning. Many avoided disclosing their identity or seeking care entirely due to fear of discrimination. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Older women in home health care with documented unsafe housing, financial strain, or food insecurity were more likely to have urinary incontinence. Ask about these social risks and consider continence evaluation and home modifications. RN Cohort 2025 Real-world comparison of phone versus video consultation in a tobacco treatment program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patient education and counseling Phone and video initial consultations in a cancer tobacco treatment program produced similar self-reported quit rates at 3, 6, and 9 months. Let patients choose the format. RN Systematic Review 2026 Implementation Outcomes and Their Determinants for Hospital-Led Care Coordination Interventions Targeting Patients With Complex Care Needs: A Qualitative Systematic Review. Journal of clinical nursing Hospital care coordination for complex patients relied on clear roles, community knowledge, and relationships. Nurses or social workers often delivered it. Training gaps and weak transition planning were common limitations after discharge. RN Cohort 2026 Stress and Health-Related Quality of Life in Adults With Type 1 Diabetes: The Mediating Role of Perceived Support and Treatment Adherence. Journal of clinical nursing High diabetes distress was most strongly linked to poorer quality of life in adults with type 1 diabetes. Perceived support was also linked to better quality of life and adherence. These are links, not proof of cause. RN Qualitative 2026 Social Representations of Bedside Milk Expression Among Mothers of Preterm Newborns in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Journal of advanced nursing Mothers described bedside milk expression as bonding and protection, but cramped space, staff shortages, procedures and shame hindered it. They said proactive nursing support and clear information helped them feel capable and continue. PT OT RN Cohort 2025 Frailty, Nutrition, and Quality of Life in Urban-Dwelling Older Adults Facing Vulnerability: Observational Study in Primary Heath Care Settings in Underpopulated Areas. Nursing & health sciences Poor functional independence and performance were the strongest indicators of vulnerability in older adults in Brazilian primary care, and poor nutrition was also linked. Quality of life was linked to vulnerability but was not analyzed as a predictor. RN Pilot 2025 Exploring the Feasibility of the LEAD Trial: Online Dyadic Dementia Care Planning for Early Alzheimer's and Other Dementias. The American journal of hospice & palliative care Care partners' confidence in making medical decisions improved and stayed high for six months. Their relationship strain with the person with dementia also dropped. The web-based planning tool was feasible but did not change the care recipients' own relationship scores. RN Other 2025 The Ripple Effect of COVID-19: How Lockdown Regulations Shaped Antiretroviral Therapy Initiation Among People Living With HIV in Johannesburg. Nursing & health sciences During COVID-19 lockdowns, Soweto facilities diagnosed fewer people with HIV and started fewer on treatment, but a higher share of those diagnosed were started on ART. Facilities recovered unevenly. Some facilities kept high initiation rates, while others lagged. RN Qualitative 2026 Navigating Prediabetes in a Foreign Country: A Qualitative Study of Self-Management Experiences Among Chinese-Speaking Immigrants in Australia. Journal of advanced nursing Chinese-speaking immigrants with prediabetes described self-management as shaped by migration, language barriers, family food habits, and anxiety. The findings suggest nurses should use plain language, native-language materials, and family or community support. RN Qualitative 2025 The Impact of Trauma-Informed Care on Patient Engagement, Experience and Barriers to Care: A Qualitative Study: Empirical Research Qualitative. Nursing open Patients described trauma-informed nursing as removing the burden of explaining their reactions, which built trust and helped them access services. Nurses advocated for them in appointments and simplified navigation, making care feel achievable. RN Qualitative 2025 Women's Breastfeeding Support Experiences in Ireland: A Qualitative Framework Analysis. Journal of human lactation : official journal of International Lactation Consultant Association Women's diaries described breastfeeding support as shaped by family, friends, colleagues and health professionals. Practical, reassuring advice was described as helpful; conflicting comments and formula offered after a health care assistant said the baby was starving were described as leaving some confused and less confident. RN Systematic Review 2025 Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Adolescents: A Systematic Review on Prevention and Intervention Programmes. Journal of child and adolescent psychiatric nursing : official publication of the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses, Inc Two included programmes reported reduced self-injury or improved emotional regulation in adolescent observational studies, but evidence was limited and neither was nurse-led. Risk factors were inconsistent. RN Survey 2025 Factors Impacting Pneumococcal Vaccination Among Non-Hispanic Black Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: A Nationwide Cross-Sectional Study. The science of diabetes self-management and care Non-Hispanic Black adults with type 2 diabetes were more likely to report pneumococcal vaccination if they felt at risk and had a past-year flu vaccine. Those who thought the disease was more severe were less likely to report vaccination. RN Cohort 2025 Exploring Emotional Communication Between Older Persons and Nursing Assistants in Home Care: A Qualitative Study. International journal of older people nursing During home care visits, older people's sadness, worry and pain often appeared as hints, jokes, repeated concerns or mismatched tone. When nursing assistants noticed these cues, they could respond with comfort; when tasks dominated, the concerns were missed or redirected. RN Qualitative 2026 Evaluating Treatment Burden in Patients with Complex Needs Receiving a Transition of Care Intervention: A Rapid Qualitative Analysis. Clinical nursing research Most recently hospitalized patients with complex needs reported minimal treatment burden, aided by family support and provider communication. Nurse-led outreach calls were appreciated for reminders and reassurance, but did not resolve deeper issues like insurance gaps or lack of home help. RN Other 2025 Type 2 Diabetes and Lifestyle Discussions With Practice Nurses in Primary Health Care: A Scoping Review of Patient Experiences. Nursing open People with type 2 diabetes valued practice nurse consultations that were unhurried, friendly and specific. They wanted clear diet and activity advice, help interpreting blood glucose results, and continuity, not generic leaflets or rushed 10-minute checks. RN Survey 2026 Psychometric Validation of Culturally Adapted Tool for Measuring Attitudes Toward Domestic Violence: Bridging Social Norms and Community Interventions. Journal of transcultural nursing : official journal of the Transcultural Nursing Society A six-item scale for Saudi adults captured recognition of domestic violence and support for intervention. Three questions about accepting violence did not fit, so it measures awareness, not personal acceptance. RN Cohort 2025 Type 2 Diabetes Management in Aotearoa New Zealand: A Comparison of Urban and Rural Primary Care Clinics. The Australian journal of rural health Rural T2D clinics had similar HbA1c levels to urban clinics, but more rural patients lacked HbA1c and urine albumin tests, and rural patients were less often prescribed metformin, ACE inhibitors, or statins. RN Narrative Review 2025 PrEP-ared for Surgery? A Comprehensive Narrative Review of Perioperative Recommendations for Anesthesia Providers. AANA journal The review suggests continuing PrEP around surgery unless contraindicated. Teams should plan for kidney, bone, blood pressure, injection timing, and stigma concerns. RN Qualitative 2025 The Disease Self-Management Among Patients With Chronic Heart Failure in an Affluent Economy: A Grounded Theory Study. Nursing open Patients in Macau managed heart failure by leaning on family and accessible social services to maintain control over their lives. They adjusted diets and medications, but emotional regulation and family cooperation were central to their daily coping strategies. RN Cohort 2025 Comparative study of the vulnerability profile of young people and adults with reactive HIV tests. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Most people with reactive HIV tests were under 30, cisgender men, and inconsistent condom users. Young people were more likely to be men who have sex with men and had tested previously, while adults were more likely to be heterosexual with partners living with HIV. PT RN Qualitative 2026 The Forgotten Caregivers: A Qualitative Study Exploring the Experiences of Fathers of Children With Medical Complexity. Journal of clinical nursing Fathers of children with medical complexity described night care, lifting, financial pressure and emotional support as central. They wanted peer support, flexible work, mental health help and physiotherapy for caregiver strain. RN Survey 2025 Development of a peer support and precision matching mobile platform for health management for people living with HIV. International journal of nursing sciences Users of an HIV peer-support WeChat platform rated its usability as good. It offers matching, medication reminders, mood tracking and health records, but this study did not test whether it improves HIV health outcomes. RN Systematic Review 2025 Advance care planning among stroke patients: A scoping review. International journal of nursing sciences Advance care planning for stroke patients was delivered through formal and informal discussions, documentation, and family or surrogate involvement. Two studies reported higher documented advance directive rates. Only eight studies were found, and implementation remained limited. RN Qualitative 2026 "Rolling the Boulder Up the Hill": A Qualitative Study of Parents' Experiences Providing Ongoing Care at Home for Their Child with Complex Medical Needs. The Canadian journal of nursing research = Revue canadienne de recherche en sciences infirmieres Parents caring for medically complex children at home described doing nursing tasks, advocacy, and round-the-clock care, often without enough support, with strain on sleep, identity, and finances. Ask what support is missing. RN Survey 2026 Provider effects and racial inequities in breast cancer risk-management adoption: Findings from a community-based study of high-risk women. Patient education and counseling High-risk women who had a long relationship with a provider, discussed breast cancer risk, or saw a specialist were more likely to follow screening guidance and know prevention options. Black women reported less access to all three. RN Other 2025 Consensus Guidelines for the Follow-Up Care of Long-Term Cancer Survivors and Their Families for Primary Care Nurses in Spain: A Modified Delphi Study. Nursing & health sciences Spanish primary care nurses reached consensus on follow-up plans for long-term cancer survivors and families: identify survivors, assess physical, psychosocial and socioeconomic needs, involve families, coordinate hospital and primary care, and use flexible consultations or telehealth as complements. RN Other 2025 Self-Health Monitoring by Smart Devices and Ontology Technology for Older Adults With Uncontrolled Hypertension: Quasi-Experimental Study. JMIR nursing Older adults with uncontrolled hypertension who used a smartwatch, app, and nurse-led messaging for 12 weeks saw their mean arterial pressure drop significantly compared to usual care. However, self-reported behavior scores did not differ between the two groups. RN Systematic Review 2026 Patient-clinician communication in longitudinal care settings about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and adult traumas: A systematic review of reviews. Patient education and counseling Trauma screening alone was not endorsed as a stand-alone intervention. Supportive communication, confidentiality, and follow-up resources were essential before asking patients about trauma. RN RCT 2026 Integrating patient education on deprescribing into care delivery: Learnings from the Optimize pragmatic trial. Patient education and counseling Older adults and care partners accepted deprescribing education, but brochures given at the start of visits were seldom remembered. Only 5 of 160 contacted recalled receiving one. Some preferred mail, portal, or pharmacy delivery. RN Systematic Review 2025 Interventions for Psychological Stress in Pregnant African American Women: A Scoping Review. Issues in mental health nursing Stress interventions for pregnant African American women showed mixed results. Quantitative data did not consistently prove reduced stress, but participants valued culturally matched support and mind-body techniques. Current evidence is too sparse to recommend specific protocols as effective treatments. RN Qualitative 2025 What Aspects Promote Health and Well-Being Among Autistic Adults and How Can They Be Incorporated Into Nursing Care? A Theoretical Podcast-Based Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Autistic adults described health-promoting needs: pursuing intense interests, routines for eating, hygiene and toileting, straightforward communication, sensory comfort and time alone. The paper maps these to nursing care, but reports expert suggestions, not tested interventions. RN Qualitative 2025 Barriers and Facilitators to the Symptom Self-Management in Patients With Decompensated Cirrhosis: A Qualitative Study Using Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behaviour Model. Nursing open Patients with decompensated cirrhosis, families and clinicians described symptom self-management barriers: poor symptom recognition, fatigue, alcohol social pressure, cost and low confidence.
