Nursing in critical care Postoperative admission and lower admission heart rate were linked to a higher chance of direct home discharge in 118 paediatric ICU patients; arrest before ICU and early ventilation were linked to a lower chance. Longer ICU stay was linked to needing medical care at home. RN Survey 2026 Demographic factors and rural residence history associated with smoking history. Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Smoking history was more common in men, adults aged 31 to 50, and women who had lived in rural areas. Rural living was not linked to smoking history in men. Race was not linked to smoking history once other factors were considered. Recent primary care visits were associated with more community diagnoses and a smaller Black and White gap. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Nursing actions mapped for parents during child hospitalization include teaching care skills, validating emotions, encouraging skin-to-skin contact and parental presence, and linking families to community resources. Local language text, familiar images, side-by-side comparisons, and pointer position mattered more than red-green color coding. Healthy eating dominated; coping was rare, especially in English. Professional creators scored higher than personal or company videos. RN RCT 2026 Comparing the Effects of Diabetes-Specific and Overall Medication Regimen Complexity on Diabetes Distress. The science of diabetes self-management and care In adults with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes, diabetes-specific and overall medication complexity were not associated with overall diabetes distress. A secondary subscale finding linked high overall complexity to lower regimen-related distress, but this does not prove more medications reduce distress. RN Qualitative 2026 Perceptions of dolutegravir-based regimen use among people living with HIV in Limpopo province: A qualitative study. Curationis People living with HIV in Limpopo mostly accepted the tenofovir, lamivudine and dolutegravir regimen because they found it tolerable and reported more strength, energy, appetite. Many did not know it was their new regimen. Missed doses were linked to alcohol or work, not side effects. RN Cohort 2026 The Association Between Home-Visit Nursing Use and the Incidence of Potentially Avoidable Hospitalisation and Its Duration Among Community-Dwelling Older People: A 12-Month Prospective Cohort Study. International journal of older people nursing After accounting for differences, home-visit nursing use was associated with lower chance of hospital stays that might have been avoided with home care. It was not associated with fewer hospital days. RN Other 2026 Adaptation and Validation of the Indonesian Version of the Problem Areas in Diabetes Scale Among People With Type 2 Diabetes: An Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Nursing open A translated Indonesian diabetes distress questionnaire identified emotional and self-management strain, treatment and social support strain, and complication worries among adults with type 2 diabetes. Repeating it after 14 days gave similar total scores. RN Other 2026 Designing and Psychometric Properties of Self-Care Tool for Adults With Pre-Diabetes: Exploratory Sequential Mixed Method. Nursing open A new 19-item questionnaire measures self-care behaviours in adults with pre-diabetes. It takes about six minutes to complete and scores from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating better self-care. It was developed and tested in Iran, so its use in other cultures is untested. PT RN Meta-Analysis 2026 Non-Pharmacological Interventions for Cough in Patients With Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Journal of clinical nursing Non-drug treatments were associated with lower cough severity in lung cancer patients, especially pulmonary rehabilitation, but the evidence was very low certainty and most trials were high risk of bias. RN Qualitative 2026 Co-Creating a Digital Learning Platform for Cross-Sectoral Virtual Consultations: An Action Research Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences For cross-sector virtual consultations, participants identified four competencies: technical setup, patient involvement, meeting leadership, and role clarity with communication. They co-created an eight-module training platform, but no outcomes were tested. RN Qualitative 2026 Defining Cultural Care for Immigrant Women Through Leininger's Sunrise Model: A Qualitative Study. Nursing open Immigrant women in Türkiye described care barriers that go beyond language. They reported feeling judged by staff, needing female caregivers for privacy, and relying on family for support. Nurses should anticipate these cultural and structural needs rather than assuming language fluency solves access. RN Pilot 2026 Mindfulness meditation for pulmonary hypertension program development: Acceptability and feasibility of technology-assisted complementary health intervention for symptom self-management. Heart & lung : the journal of critical care Patients with pulmonary hypertension found a video-based mindfulness program acceptable and feasible, scoring high on usability. Video engagement was strong initially but declined over eight weeks, while app use for daily practice remained suboptimal. RN Qualitative 2026 Living with type 1 diabetes mellitus: experiences of Colombian teenagers and parents. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Colombian teens with type 1 diabetes and their parents described diagnosis as an emotional shock followed by constant 24-hour vigilance. They reported poor initial education on carbohydrate counting and insulin, unsympathetic healthcare staff, and social stigma at school. Families relied on peer support groups and faith to cope. RN Other 2026 Implementing the Virtual Integrated Practice (VIP) Program to Support Rural General Practice Viability in Australia. The Australian journal of rural health Rural practices ran a virtual GP service with 8309 episodes of care, mostly video. Practice staff supported 39% of episodes, mostly nursing. It describes implementation and workflow needs, not better patient outcomes. RN Other 2026 Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on domestic violence, 2019-2022. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Reported domestic violence in Maputo fell 42% during the pandemic, but authors warn this likely reflects underreporting, not safer homes. Adult women had the highest rates; girls showed sexual violence and older women abuse. RN Survey 2026 Factors associated with externalized anger among early adolescents in rural Appalachia: A conceptual proposition with implications for violence prevention. Archives of psychiatric nursing In 1564 rural adolescents, harsh parenting was linked to higher externalized anger, while caregiver support, supportive adults at school and perceived neighborhood safety were linked to lower anger. Girls reported higher anger than boys, contrary to the expected male risk. OT RN Systematic Review 2026 Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Older Asian Immigrants Through the Lens of Sense of Coherence: Systematic Review of Qualitative Studies. Journal of advanced nursing Older Asian immigrants linked loneliness to language barriers, reversed family roles and lost cultural connection. Ask about these when assessing older adults, not only mood. RN Qualitative 2026 Outpatient discharge management model: a strategy to promote continuity of care. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Nurses and physicians at a Brazilian teaching hospital described barriers to sending chronic patients back to primary care, including poor communication and unclear criteria. They helped design a discharge model where a nurse coordinates the transition, but the model's impact on patient outcomes has not yet been tested. RN Other 2026 The effect of menstrual education on knowledge on menstruation: a quasi-experimental study. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Adolescent girls' menstruation knowledge scores rose from 7.16 to 9.62 on a 10-question test after two 40-minute school education sessions. RN Qualitative 2026 Patients' Perceptions of the Role of Nursing in Substance Use Disorder Treatment Programs: Qualitative Study. JMIR nursing Patients in substance use rehabilitation valued nurses for listening, emotional support, and trust. They often did not recognize nurses' technical tasks and confused nurses with doctors or social workers. RN Other 2026 "We're All in This Together": A Mixed-Methods Study of Provider and Patient Perceptions of Emergency Care for Opioid Use Disorder. Journal of advanced nursing People with opioid use disorder described avoiding emergency care due to fear of judgment and pain dismissal. Providers reported feeling helpless and unsafe. Both groups agreed addiction is a disease, but disagreed on whether naloxone changes behavior or if disclosure is honest. OT RN Systematic Review 2026 Experiential Aspects in Patients With Permanent Urostomy Following Bladder Cancer Surgery: Meta-Synthesis of Qualitative Studies. Nursing open People living with a permanent urostomy after bladder cancer surgery described fear of leaks and odour, changed body image, sexual problems, family and financial stress, and gaps in home stoma care. These themes describe daily life, not treatment effects. RN Survey 2026 Pathways to self-management among older adults with multimorbidity in rural China: A fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis. International journal of nursing sciences In 487 rural older adults with multiple chronic conditions, high self-efficacy sat at the centre of good self-management. Social support, resilience and resource access shaped different pathways, while low self-efficacy marked poor self-management. OT RN Survey 2026 Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Bathing Care Among Patients with a Stoma and Their Correlations With Quality of Life: A Cross-sectional Study. Advances in skin & wound care Patients with a stoma had moderate bathing knowledge but more affected attitudes and practices. Bathing knowledge, attitude, and practice were linked to quality of life, especially timing, products, leakage, and confidence. OT RN Other 2026 Healing Steps on Country-Exploring Care Pathways for Aboriginal People in the Kimberley With Diabetes-Related Foot Disease. The Australian journal of rural health Remote Aboriginal patients with diabetes foot disease had many acute foot-care visits and hospital admissions, but little preventive care. They valued local Aboriginal health services, support people, and self-care, while hospital discharge left some under-informed and under-equipped. RN Qualitative 2026 Addressing Older Adults' Sexual Health Needs in Regional Primary Care: A Qualitative Study of Barriers and Enablers. The Australian journal of rural health Sexual health is important to older adults in regional Australia, but conversations with clinicians remain rare and ad-hoc. Patients and clinicians both prefer GPs over nurses for these discussions. Barriers include stigma, lack of privacy in small towns, and time constraints. RN Qualitative 2026 Building Research Capacity to Enroll Spanish-Speaking Patients and Families in a Traumatic Brain Injury Transitional Care Intervention. Western journal of nursing research Providers and interpreters emphasized that transitional care managers must act as cultural brokers, not just translators. They recommended respecting family networks, faith, and regional language nuances to improve engagement for Spanish-speaking patients with traumatic brain injury. Nursing open People living with rare diseases described distress, stigma and fragmented care during the diagnostic odyssey, alongside resilience and hope. Nurses should ask about mental health, explain uncertainty, and coordinate care rather than leaving it to patients. RN Systematic Review 2026 Effectiveness of nurse-led hypertension self-management interventions: A mixed-methods systematic review and meta-analysis. International journal of nursing sciences Nurse-led hypertension self-management lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure versus usual care. The reductions were still seen at later follow-up. It also improved knowledge and some health behaviours. RN Qualitative 2026 Adherence to Self-Management for Chronic Diseases Among Unemployed Jobseekers in Finland-A Qualitative Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Unemployed jobseekers with chronic illnesses said being heard by professionals, clear instructions, regular nurse follow-up and help with daily routines made managing their conditions easier. Pain, fatigue, money problems, medication fears, long waits and record problems made it harder. RN Other 2026 Time toxicity in chronic disease comorbidity care: A concept analysis using Walker and Avant's approach. International journal of nursing sciences Time pressure from appointments, medications, travel and costs was described as a persistent burden for patients with multiple chronic conditions, linked to poorer adherence, mood, caregiver strain and quality of life. No tested intervention is shown. RN Other 2026 Effects of family-based nursing interventions on mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy related to stunting prevention in Indonesia: A quasi-experimental study. International journal of nursing sciences A seven-week family-based nursing program significantly improved mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy regarding stunting prevention. These gains persisted three months after the program ended, suggesting the intervention effectively empowered caregivers within the family context. OT RN Qualitative 2026 Self-Care Experiences and Support Needs of Community-Dwelling Older Adults With Multimorbidity: A Qualitative Study Informed by the Caring Life-Course Theory. Journal of clinical nursing Eighteen older adults with multimorbidity said self-care was learned through trial and error, not clinic education. They felt emotional needs were overlooked in healthcare and relied on family, peers and online groups. RN Other 2026 Consensus-Based Safety Recommendations for Informal Home Care: A Mixed Methods Study. Research in nursing & health Experts generated 288 safety recommendations for informal home care, covering tasks like medication storage and fall prevention. These are consensus-based suggestions for future testing, not proven interventions, and have not yet been evaluated for real-world effectiveness or caregiver usability. RN Cohort 2026 Enhancing Community-Based Nursing Decision Support: Machine Learning Models for Diabetes Risk Prediction Using Home Health Nursing Notes. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) A machine learning model analyzing home health nursing notes predicted diabetes risk with high accuracy. Hyperlipidemia, dysuria, and dressing care were strong indicators, offering nurses a potential tool for early detection in home settings. RN RCT 2026 A Nurse-Led Educational Intervention for Patients With Type 1 Diabetes Using Continuous Glucose Monitoring. Worldviews on evidence-based nursing In adults with type 1 diabetes scanning a glucose sensor 4 or fewer times/day, a nurse-taught session raised daily scans from 3.1 to 6.1 and improved time in range. No control group, so benefit may not be due only to the session. OT RN Systematic Review 2026 Meaning and Influencing Factors of a Good Death for Community-Dwelling Individuals With Dementia: An Integrative Review. International journal of older people nursing People with dementia and families described a good death as pain-free, at home, with family present, dignity and autonomy, and meaningful activities. Community resources and advance care planning were linked to these views. RN Other 2026 Effect of a culturally tailored educational intervention on women's knowledge and attitudes toward cervical cancer screening: a single-group pre-post study. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) Jordanian women's knowledge and attitudes toward cervical cancer screening improved significantly after a 10-session educational program. However, the study did not measure whether women actually got screened, and deep-seated barriers like embarrassment and fear remained high. RN Qualitative 2026 Stakeholders' Perspectives on Implementing the iSupport for Dementia Program to Address Inequalities in Dementia Care: A Qualitative Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Carers and staff said translated self-guided dementia training may not reach culturally and linguistically diverse carers unless bilingual staff coach them, use simpler inclusive language, add short videos and local case studies, and embed peer support in existing care services. RN Qualitative 2026 The Patient, the Provider, and the TikTok Creator: Qualitative Analysis of the Content and Quality of Videos on Prenatal Genetic Screening. Journal of midwifery & women's health Prenatal genetic screening videos on TikTok were often inaccurate. 42.2% used gender instead of sex, and 31.3% framed NIPT as determining fetal sex.
