PT Meta-Analysis 2025 Effectiveness of Treadmill Training Intervention for the Management of Patients With Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. International journal of nursing practice Treadmill training interventions improved walking speed and endurance in stroke survivors overall, but not in those needing assistance at baseline. Body weight-supported training showed gains in some groups, though limitations reduce certainty. PT RN Other 2025 Education Programs for Patients With Parkinson's Disease Receiving Deep Brain Stimulation: A Scoping Review. Western journal of nursing research Seven studies describe patient education for Parkinson's disease with deep brain stimulation. Nurses, therapists, and physicians delivered materials, apps, and counselling. Reported outcomes included better social adjustment, satisfaction, and mobility, but the evidence is too small and varied to prove benefit. PT OT SLP RN Qualitative 2026 Clinical Implications for Management of Falls in Hospital Patients with Communication Disability After Stroke: A Qualitative Meta-Synthesis. Journal of advanced nursing Hospital falls after stroke often go unexplained when severe aphasia prevents patients describing what happened. Staff documented communication problems as cognition, used equipment, and missed adapted education. Multidisciplinary plans, family support and speech-language input suggest safer falls prevention. PT OT SLP RN Other 2026 Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice of Informal Caregivers of People Living With Stroke: A Scoping Review of Recent Literature. Journal of advanced nursing Informal caregivers of people with stroke often lacked stroke and care knowledge, felt unprepared, yet were willing to manage mobility, medications, swallowing-related meals, appointments and emotional support. Clinicians should teach and check understanding, especially before discharge. PT RCT 2025 Inspiratory Muscle Training in Adults With Cerebral Palsy: Long Term Effects: A Double-Blind Randomized, Controlled Trial. Research in nursing & health Eight weeks of inspiratory muscle training improved breathing muscle strength in adults with cerebral palsy, but gains faded by 12 weeks and were mostly gone by 24 weeks. Training at 40% of maximum inspiratory pressure held up better than 20%. PT Systematic Review 2025 Parental Perceptions of Physical Therapy Use Among Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Meta-Synthesis. The journal of nursing research : JNR Parents of children with cerebral palsy described physical therapy as valuable for movement, participation, and hope, but also burdensome when travel, coordination, fatigue, and unclear goals disrupted family life. PT OT RN Other 2026 A Realist Evaluation of the Implementation and Use of Patient-Reported Outcomes in Four Value-Based Healthcare Programmes. Journal of advanced nursing Heart Failure nurses used PROMs to triage and plan resources, but patients did not self-manage or share decisions. In Epilepsy, mood scores identified problems without services to act on them. PT OT Systematic Review 2026 A Systematic Review of Pain Catastrophizing and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain. Pain management nursing : official journal of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses In adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain, higher pain catastrophizing consistently links to greater pain intensity and disability. It acts as a mediator of treatment effects, meaning reducing it helps relieve pain, but it does not reliably predict who will respond best to physical interventions like exercise. PT OT RN Cohort 2025 Predictors of functional disability in people with ischemic stroke: two to three years after the stroke. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Two to three years after ischemic stroke, 37.4% of 155 survivors had moderate to severe disability. High initial neurological deficit, no thrombolysis, and new stroke were the main factors associated. PT Survey 2025 Parkinson's Disease in Australia: Evaluation of Regional Differences and Health-Related Quality of Life. The Australian journal of rural health Regional living was not associated with poorer Parkinson's quality of life. Regional respondents waited longer for diagnosis and travelled farther to neurologist appointments. Disease severity predicted quality of life. PT OT SLP RN Other 2025 Lived experiences, depression, and quality of life in Korean women with Parkinson disease after deep brain stimulation: a multimethod study. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) Quality of life and depression did not clearly improve in Korean women with Parkinson disease after deep brain stimulation, although motor symptoms improved. They described pain, visible device changes, battery costs, and fear of shutdown. PT OT Meta-Analysis 2025 Effects of Sling Exercise Training on Walking Ability and Balance Function in Patients With Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Nursing & health sciences Daily-living scores and walking endurance were not shown to improve, but suspension-based stroke training (sling exercise, body-weight-supported treadmill and robotic-assisted locomotor training) improved balance and walking. PT OT RCT 2026 Feasibility and Acceptability of the Living My Life Program for Rural and Remote Stroke Survivors. The Australian journal of rural health Four of five rural stroke survivors completed a 12-week online coaching program, found it acceptable, and reported progress on personal goals using their own technology. This pilot shows it can be done, not that it works. PT OT RN Qualitative 2026 The Neglected Care Burden and Unmet Needs of Informal Caregivers of Stroke Survivors. A Qualitative Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Caregivers of stroke survivors described heavy new roles, coordination and personal care, and feeling left without clear stroke information. They valued continuity with home physiotherapists and occupational therapists. PT RN Cohort 2026 Therapeutic support and functional disability after ischemic stroke: a cohort study. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Disability did not change significantly from 90 days to two to three years after ischemic stroke. Physiotherapy follow-up was linked to more moderate or severe disability, likely because more impaired patients were referred. PT Pilot 2025 Wearable-Enhanced mHealth Intervention to Promote Physical Activity in Manual Wheelchair Users: Single-Group Pre-Post Feasibility Study. JMIR rehabilitation and assistive technologies In manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury, a program using an app, smartwatch, wheelchair sensor, and PT and trainer guided workouts did not significantly change sedentary breaks, but it increased moderate-to-vigorous exercise time. PT OT SLP Cohort 2026 Impact of multidisciplinary rehabilitation on functioning and quality of life in stroke survivors: a longitudinal retrospective analysis. Journal of rehabilitation medicine Stroke survivors in specialized multidisciplinary rehabilitation showed improved functional and quality of life scores up to 12 months, but overall quality of life did not improve and scores declined by 3 years. The study cannot separate rehabilitation from other care. PT OT SLP Cohort 2026 Rehabilitation needs of long COVID patients in British Columbia. PM & R : the journal of injury, function, and rehabilitation Most people referred to a long COVID clinic needed rehabilitation by clinic criteria, especially for breathing and mental health. Many needed more than one service, so screening should ask about fatigue, breathlessness, mood, and function before choosing a single rehab pathway. PT OT RCT 2026 Effects of adding R-BoT + plus verticalization-based robotic locomotor training to conventional rehabilitation in patients with subacute stroke: a randomized controlled trial. Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitation Adding R-BoT + plus robotic stepping to conventional rehab improved walking independence more than conventional rehab alone at 4 weeks and 3 months. The robot was given with usual therapy, not alone. PT Cohort 2026 Ethnic Differences in Postacute Stroke Rehabilitation. Archives of physical medicine and rehabilitation After adjusting for income, education, and other factors, there was no clear difference in first inpatient rehab use between MA and NHW stroke survivors. Before adjustment, NHW use was higher. PT Other 2026 A multidimensional evaluation of the Atalante exoskeleton as an assistive locomotion device for individuals with complete paraplegia: a prospective longitudinal study in a controlled environment. Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitation In 11 adults with complete paraplegia, supervised hands-free Atalante exoskeleton walking became faster to set up and take off, with rare harness-assisted near-falls, but one fracture occurred. Use needs careful bone screening and supervised indoor setup. PT OT Pilot 2026 Transcutaneous spinal stimulation with upper extremity robotic training in chronic stroke and spinal cord injury: individual neurophysiological and clinical responses. Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitation Adding cervical transcutaneous spinal stimulation to arm robotic and grip training produced no clear group-level arm gains. Some people with chronic stroke or spinal cord injury showed individual improvements in grip, arm scores, tone, or sensation. PT OT RCT 2026 Tai Ji for stroke rehabilitation: a randomized controlled trial on improving upper limb function and cortico-muscular coupling in stroke patients. Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitation Stroke patients who added Tai Ji to standard medical treatment, health education, and upper limb rehabilitation had greater upper limb motor score gains after four weeks. Because Tai Ji was extra training, its unique effect is unclear. PT OT RCT 2026 Development of virtual reality in the upper extremities function in children with Cerebral Palsy. A pilot randomized controlled trial. Journal of neuroengineering and rehabilitation Virtual reality training did not significantly improve upper-extremity range of motion or motor function versus conventional therapy in 42 children with cerebral palsy. A younger 10 to 12 year subgroup showed better self-reported manual ability. PT OT SLP Cohort 2026 Clinically interpretable prediction models of stroke functional outcomes: A national cohort study of adults in inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the US. Archives of physical medicine and rehabilitation In US inpatient rehab, discharge self-care and mobility were best predicted by admission self-care and mobility, continence and length of stay. Therapy minutes had limited influence. PT OT SLP RCT 2026 Low-Frequency STN-DBS for Standing and Gait Initiation in Parkinson's Disease: A Double-Blinded Randomised Cross-Over Feasibility Trial. Neurorehabilitation and neural repair Switching to low-frequency brain stimulation improved standing balance and movement initiation in Parkinson's, but caused tremor to return in 10 of 16 patients off medication. Clinical mobility scores did not change, so the benefit is only visible on specialised force-plate tests. PT OT Systematic Review 2026 Efficacy of Physical Modalities for Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain After Stroke: A Systematic Review. Journal of neurologic physical therapy : JNPT In adults with post-stroke shoulder pain, electrical, shock-wave, or laser modalities sometimes reduced pain, especially when added to physiotherapy. Function improved less consistently, and the evidence was very uncertain, so do not treat these as proven stand-alone therapies. PT OT Case Report 2026 Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Distal Biceps Tenotomy for Fixed Spastic Elbow Contracture in Cerebral Palsy: Case Report and Technical Note. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation In a 63-year-old woman with severe spastic cerebral palsy, ultrasound-guided percutaneous distal biceps tenotomy improved passive elbow extension and made hygiene and positioning easier. This single case does not show the procedure works. PT OT SLP Cohort 2026 Functional recovery and mortality after intensive inpatient rehabilitation for severe acquired brain injury in older adults: a retrospective cohort study. Frontiers in rehabilitation sciences Older adults after severe acquired brain injury who had swallowing problems and diabetes at admission had poorer function at discharge. Death during inpatient rehabilitation was more common in older patients. PT Other 2026 The cost of imbalance: how balance problems drive energy cost of walking in persons with multiple sclerosis. Journal of rehabilitation medicine In people with MS who had walking problems, poorer balance was linked to higher energy cost of walking, especially at slower speeds. This suggests rehabilitation may need to target both balance and walking speed, not balance alone. PT Other 2026 A domain-specific approach to characterizing balance confidence post-stroke. Topics in stroke rehabilitation People with chronic stroke had the lowest balance confidence for recovering after a bump, averaging 48%. ABC scale items separated into walking, preparing for movement, and reacting to a disturbance. PT OT Pilot 2026 Assisted cycling in non-ambulant adults with cerebral palsy: exploratory effects and feasibility in residential care. Journal of rehabilitation medicine Fatigue, sleep and quality of life did not change after assisted cycling in non-ambulant adults with cerebral palsy. The programme was feasible, and some participants reported less leg pain and constipation. PT OT SLP RCT 2026 Transfer effects of animal-assisted therapy on socioemotional skills in adult inpatient rehabilitation after acquired brain injury: a randomized controlled trial. Frontiers in rehabilitation sciences After six weeks, adults with brain injury who received animal-assisted occupational, speech, or physiotherapy showed more social behavior in a standardized outside-therapy task than usual therapy. Mood, thinking, motivation, quality of life and attendance did not differ. High dropouts mean this is not firm evidence. PT Case Report 2026 Cryoneurolysis for Spasticity in a Pediatric Patient With Cold Urticaria Managed With Targeted Skin Warming: A Case Report. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation One child with cold urticaria had cryoneurolysis for leg spasticity with active skin warming; no cold flare occurred, and ankle and hamstring range and heel strike improved at 1 month. PT Cohort 2026 Biomechanical and functional outcomes of high-burden and low-burden multilevel surgery in young people with cerebral palsy. Developmental medicine and child neurology Gait pattern improved after both low-burden and high-burden multilevel surgery in ambulatory young people with cerebral palsy. Functional walking capacity improved only after low-burden surgery; high-burden surgery did not improve walking capacity and walking speed decreased. PT OT Survey 2026 Consumer Priorities for Upper-Extremity Outcome Assessments. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Stroke survivors and caregivers valued clinician-rated arm movement, strength and hand tasks over biomarkers or general disability. They preferred weekly in-person assessments during treatment. PT Other 2026 Toward Automation of Motor Assessments in Stroke: Proof-of-Concept Model to Interpret Balance and Gait in Patients With Stroke. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation A video model recognized sit, stand, and turn actions from balance and gait assessment recordings, but performed poorly on feet together, nudge, and walking. It is not ready to replace clinician observation. PT OT Pilot 2026 Feasibility of Behavioral Intervention and Guided Stepping Training Early Post-Stroke (BIG STEPS): A Pilot Randomized Trial. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Early stepping training after stroke was feasible and safe, with participants averaging 6534 steps/day versus 4031 in the control group at 12 weeks. This pilot supports larger trials but does not yet prove lasting functional gains. PT OT Systematic Review 2026 Clinical implementation of virtual reality in neurorehabilitation: a scoping review of barriers, facilitators, and motivational factors. Frontiers in rehabilitation sciences Clinicians perceived VR as a useful add-on, but adoption was uneven. Funding, training, technical support and workflow were barriers; patient motivation, peer support and management commitment helped. PT OT Case Report 2026 Ultrasound-Guided Alcohol Neurolysis for Poststroke Upper Limb Spasticity to Facilitate Arteriovenous Fistula Creation in Hemodialysis: A Case Report. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation In one dialysis-dependent stroke survivor, ultrasound-guided alcohol neurolysis of arm nerves reduced spasticity and pain and improved positioning, allowing fistula creation. It was given with stretching, orthoses, strengthening, electrical stimulation and lidocaine, so its independent effect is unclear. PT Case Report 2026 Atypical Central Neuropathic Pain Following Stroke Presenting With Distal Movement-Evoked Shoulder Pain: A Case Report. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation In a patient after right basal ganglia hemorrhage, passive wrist and finger extension caused severe left shoulder pain despite shoulder treatments. This pattern suggested centrally mediated pain; neuropathic medications gave only partial relief. PT Cohort 2026 Clustering of Sedentary Behavior and Longitudinal Changes in Patients With Stroke Undergoing Rehabilitation. Journal of neurologic physical therapy : JNPT Stroke patients in inpatient rehabilitation clustered into low, moderate, and high sedentary groups. Sedentary time fell and breaks rose overall, but the pattern of change differed by group. PT OT SLP Cohort 2026 Association Between Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)-Related Clinical Burden and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Severity Among Special Operations Forces (SOF): Cross-sectional and Longitudinal Inferences. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Among 105 Special Operations Forces in TBI rehab, higher baseline PTSD scores went with more brain-injury symptoms and worse daily function. But only poor daily function predicted faster PTSD improvement over time. Brain-injury symptom counts alone did not predict how PTSD changed. PT Cohort 2026 Practice Patterns of Hip Flexion Assist Orthosis Use in Multiple Sclerosis: A Retrospective Community-Based Analysis. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Some patients with multiple sclerosis used a hip flexion assist orthosis regularly, while others stopped, declined purchase, or had an unsuccessful assessment. Pain, bulk, and cost were common barriers, and patients who stopped had higher recorded lower-limb spasticity. PT Case Report 2026 Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation for Spasticity in Primary Lateral Sclerosis: A Case Series. Journal of neurologic physical therapy : JNPT All six people with PLS had lower spasticity scores after one 30-minute transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation session, and balance scores improved, but this was an uncontrolled case series, so it does not prove the treatment works. PT Systematic Review 2026 Metaverse-Related and Immersive Digital Technologies in Neurorehabilitation: A Scoping Review. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation 11 of 19 heterogeneous studies of immersive digital neurorehabilitation reported improvements, but no formal checks of study quality mean this is not proof of efficacy. PT OT Other 2026 Investigating Disparities in Acute Rehabilitation Outcomes Among Individuals With TBI and SCI: A Retrospective Chart Review of UDS Data. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Insurance type predicted acute rehab outcomes for TBI and SCI patients. Publicly insured had lower discharge function than commercially insured, despite similar length of stay. Workers' compensation patients stayed longer and had higher discharge function. No differences were found for race or sex. PT Other 2026 Using Compositional Data Analysis to Explore Movement Behaviors in People Who Have Experienced a Stroke. Journal of neurologic physical therapy : JNPT Stroke survivors' daily mix of activity, sedentary time, and sleep was associated with physical function. The whole-day pattern related to function more closely than each behavior considered separately. PT OT Case Report 2026 Sequential Cryoneurolysis and Percutaneous Needle Tenotomy for Refractory Wrist Flexor Contracture: A Retrospective Case Series in Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation Patients with chronic wrist flexor contracture had improved passive wrist extension after percutaneous needle tenotomy following cryoneurolysis. This small case series cannot prove benefit or separate the treatments' contributions. PT Pilot 2026 Feasibility and Immediate Effects of Dynamic Exercise Using Mixed Reality for Balance Improvement in Older Adults and Individuals With Neurologic Disorders. Archives of rehabilitation research and clinical translation 31 participants completed one 20-minute mixed reality session without severe sickness or adverse events. Overall Timed Up and Go improved by 0.92 seconds, Functional Reach did not, and subgroup effects were inconsistent. ← Previous PAGE 2 OF 78 Next →
