PT OT SLP RN Cohort 2023 Pain and Associated Factors in Nursing Home Residents. Pain management nursing : official journal of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses Nursing home residents with intact cognition, arthritis, depression, anxiety, or contractures were more likely to report severe or persistent pain. Residents with Alzheimer’s disease reported less pain, likely due to assessment difficulties rather than lower pain levels. OT Cohort 2023 Changes in Satisfaction with Meaningful Activities and Onset of Depressive Symptoms among Community-Dwelling Japanese Older Adults: A Population-Based Study Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Community-dwelling older adults whose satisfaction with their most meaningful activities fell were more likely to develop depressive symptoms during follow-up. Ask what matters to them, not just what they do, when planning mental health support. OT RN Qualitative 2023 The Context of Caregiving in Heart Failure: A Dyadic, Mixed Methods Analysis. The Journal of cardiovascular nursing Caregiver burden scores missed key home and financial struggles. Dyads with high contextual needs had worse physical health and finances, but those with moderate needs reported the highest burden. Standard screening tools do not capture the full picture of what families are dealing with at home. OT Qualitative 2023 Adaptation Strategies in Students with Motor Functional Diversity. Investigacion y educacion en enfermeria Nine students described family and caregivers, nurses who gave companionship and hand activity, and virtual classes as important for staying in university. OT Qualitative 2024 School Nurses' Perceptions About Student's Wellbeing During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Sweden. The Journal of school nursing : the official publication of the National Association of School Nurses School nurses reported students stressed about infection, grades and lost friendships, while some felt less anxiety with a slower pace and more family time. PT OT SLP RN Survey 2024 The other COVID-19 survivors: Timing, duration, and health impact of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Journal of clinical nursing Survivors reported a median of 21 symptoms lasting over 100 days, with fatigue and cognitive issues causing the most work impairment. Symptoms evolved from flu-like to neurological and systemic issues. Most were not hospitalised, proving severe sequelae occur independently of acute infection severity. PT OT RN Other 2023 A quasi-experimental study of group counselling effectiveness for patient functional ability and quality of counselling among patients with hip arthroplasty. Nursing open Group counselling before hip replacement matched individual counselling for patient satisfaction and post-surgery function. Nurses can safely use group sessions to save time without harming recovery, though most patients still want better advice on coping at home. PT OT RN Case-Control 2023 Post-COVID Patients With New-Onset Chronic Pain 2 Years After Infection: Cross-Sectional Study. Pain management nursing : official journal of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses Non-hospitalized post-COVID patients with new chronic pain reported higher pain intensity, pain interference, central sensitization, insomnia, fear of movement, catastrophizing, anxiety, stress, and depression than recovered or healthy controls. PT OT SLP RN Systematic Review 2023 A scoping review of older patients' health-related quality of life, recovery and well-being after intensive care. Pain and anxiety are acute issues that often resolve, while frailty and sensory impairments predict poor recovery. PT OT Cohort 2023 Post intensive care syndrome in survivors of COVID-19 who required mechanical ventilation during the third wave of the pandemic: A prospective study. Heart & lung : the journal of critical care 64% of 22 survivors of COVID-19 ARDS with prolonged mechanical ventilation had post intensive care syndrome 30 days after discharge. PT OT RN Survey 2023 Self-efficacy, resilience and healthy ageing among older people who have an acute hospital admission: A cross-sectional study. Nursing open Among older people discharged home after an acute hospital admission, higher self-efficacy and resilience were linked to better healthy ageing. More co-morbidities were linked to worse healthy ageing. This does not show that raising self-efficacy improves outcomes. OT Systematic Review 2023 The Effect of COVID-19 on Dual-Eligible Beneficiaries: A Scoping Review. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Dual eligible older adults and people with disabilities had mixed pandemic outcomes: more hospitalizations and deaths in some studies, but less social disconnection in others, with worse food insecurity among those with disabilities. OT RN Survey 2023 Quality of life and financial toxicity of hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients in COVID-19. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem HSCT recipients in outpatient follow-up reported low quality of life and mild financial strain. PT OT RN Systematic Review 2023 Health effects of social connectedness in older adults living in congregate long-term care settings: A systematic review of quantitative and qualitative evidence. International journal of older people nursing Lower social connectedness in nursing homes and assisted living was linked with more depression, poorer quality of life, and faster death. Most evidence was from one-time comparisons, so it cannot prove connectedness causes better health. OT RN Cohort 2023 Resilience, activities of daily living, and well-being in patients with chronic kidney disease. Nursing open Well-being did not show a clear change over six months in 105 CKD patients; daily living scores fell while resilience rose. Resilience was associated with better well-being, but no intervention was tested. OT RN Qualitative 2024 Improving School Environments for Preventing Sexual Violence Among LGBTQ+ Youth. The Journal of school health LGBTQ+ students identified five school changes to reduce sexual violence: gender-neutral spaces, staff training on inclusion, transparent reporting protocols, LGBTQ-competent mental health support, and sexual health education that explicitly covers their identities. PT OT SLP RN Qualitative 2024 Integrating Perspectives on Family Caregiving After Critical Illness: A Qualitative Content Analysis. American journal of critical care : an official publication, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Family caregivers of ICU survivors report unmet needs for hands-on skills training and self-care support. Journal of child health care : for professionals working with children in the hospital and community Children with brachial plexus birth injury understood it mainly through pain, activity limits and unwanted attention, not through nerve terms or clinic diagrams. Ask what their arm stops them doing, and check readiness before teaching. OT RN Other 2025 Establishing priorities in child health: Giving parents and youth a voice. Journal of child health care : for professionals working with children in the hospital and community Parents and youth in Alberta named mental health, vaccines, access to care, and behaviour and development topics as child health research priorities. Parents prioritized screen time and neurodevelopment; youth prioritized early anxiety and depression signs. PT OT SLP RN Qualitative 2025 "A very different place from when the pandemic started": Lessons learned for improving systems of care for families of children with medical complexity. Journal of child health care : for professionals working with children in the hospital and community Parents of children with medical complexity preferred virtual care for scheduling and rural access but found it ineffective for therapies requiring physical engagement. They urgently requested flexible funding for respite and exceptions to hospital visitor policies to support caregiving demands. They also brought uncertainty and colleague criticism. PT OT Meta-Analysis 2025 Understanding attendance patterns and determinants in cardiac, pulmonary, and ICU rehabilitation/recovery programs: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Heart & lung : the journal of critical care Across studies, 54% of referred patients attended cardiac, pulmonary, or ICU recovery programs at least once, but rates ranged from 3.7% to 94.8%. Transportation, cost, work conflicts, and little program contact were barriers. Provider recommendation and flexible scheduling were facilitators. OT Other 2025 Improving the Use of Sensory Approaches in an Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit Using a Co-Designed Multifaceted Implementation Strategy. International journal of mental health nursing Overall sensory approach use did not increase enough to be sure after the ward programme, although sensory kits/trolleys, weighted items and sensory plans were used more often. Many felt lonely, found it hard to talk with incompatible companions, and sometimes ate in apartments. PT OT SLP RN Qualitative 2025 "Hello… I'm Here!" A Co-Productive Qualitative Study Involving Older People With Vision Impairment and Their Experiences of Acute Hospital Care. Journal of advanced nursing Seven older adults with vision impairment described acute hospital care as traumatic and disabling. They felt invisible when staff failed to introduce themselves, left call bells out of reach, and ignored guide dogs. Small environmental adjustments like contrasting cup colours and verbal orientation improved their sense of safety. OT SLP RN Systematic Review 2025 Oral Health Care: A Systematic Review of Clinical Practice Guidelines. Nursing & health sciences Nine oral-care guidelines support twice-daily fluoride toothpaste, spitting without rinsing after brushing, risk-based dental checks, and assisted mouth care. They do not test patient outcomes, so treat them as practice recommendations. OT RN Survey 2024 Network analysis of the relationships between depressive symptoms and social participation activities among Chinese older adults and its implications for nursing. International journal of nursing sciences Among 12,043 older Chinese adults, more social participation was linked with fewer depressive symptoms.
