SLP Other 2026 'Better Conversations With Developmental Language Disorder': Designing a Novel Intervention for School-Aged Children and Their Main Carers. International journal of language & communication disorders SLP Other 2026 Benefit of Amplification at Low Input Levels in Normal-Hearing Listeners. Trends in hearing A 15 dB hearing-aid boost let young adults with normal hearing follow soft speech with less effort than listening with the open ear, although it never improved how much they understood. Hearing aids set to no gain made thresholds, understanding and effort worse. SLP Systematic Review 2026 Indicators for evaluating public speaking in adults: a scoping review. CoDAS The rating scales used to judge adult public speaking are mostly homemade: 26 of 35 studies used indicators the researchers wrote themselves rather than a validated tool. Four areas recur anyway: how the talk is structured, nonverbal behaviour, voice, and language. SLP RCT 2025 Exploring the nature of stuttering through a behavioral-neuro-modulation intervention program in bilinguals with stuttering. CoDAS Treating bilingual adults who stutter in their dominant or non-dominant language made no difference to how much they stuttered. Stuttered syllables fell in both Kannada and English, but everyone also got brain stimulation and fluency tasks and there was no untreated control group. SLP RCT 2025 Efficacy of the adapted Cycles approach in telepractice speech-language pathology with a parental focus for children with speech sound disorders. CoDAS Children with speech sound disorders improved with the adapted Cycles approach by video call, whether all 12 sessions were run by the therapist or 6 were run by a trained parent. Only ten children took part, so treat the parent-led result as a signal, not proof. SLP RCT 2022 Teaching Children With Hearing Loss to Recognize Speech: Gains Made With Computer-Based Auditory and/or Speechreading Training. Ear and hearing Sixteen hours of computer-based speech perception games improved children's speech recognition: listening scores rose by about 9% words correct and speechreading by about 7%. Gains were largest for the talker a child trained with, but children also improved with unfamiliar talkers. SLP Systematic Review 2025 Articulatory-kinematic changes in speech following surgical treatment for oral or oropharyngeal cancer: A systematic review. International journal of language & communication disorders After surgery for mouth or throat cancer, the tongue stiffens, shapes itself less variably, and moves less symmetrically, and the tip struggles to rise, so sounds like /t/, /d/ and /s/ suffer. Most of the studies were tiny, so treat this as a map of what has been seen, not proof. SLP RCT 2023 A Pilot Randomized Control Trial of Motor-Based Treatments for Childhood Apraxia of Speech: Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment and Ultrasound Biofeedback. American journal of speech-language pathology Both treatments improved speech sound accuracy on words that were never practised, and children kept those gains a month later. Neither treatment beat the other, and there was no untreated comparison group. SLP Other 2026 Influence of Semantic Richness on Word Form Learning in Children With Developmental Language Disorder. Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR Adding rich, story-like meaning to new words made preschoolers with developmental language disorder less accurate in how they said those words, and made both groups produce more varied word forms. Sound accuracy did not improve over sessions for either group. SLP Other 2026 Hearing Aids Reshape Neural Processing of Emotional Speech Without Improving Emotion Perception. Trends in hearing Hearing aids did not help older adults with hearing loss notice when the emotion in speech changed any better than listening unaided, and both were worse than normal-hearing peers. Aided listening did change which brain areas were engaged. Only 14 hearing-aid users were tested. SLP RCT 2024 The Acoustic Voice Quality Index (AVQI) in People with Parkinson's Disease Before and After Intensive Voice and Articulation Therapies: Secondary Outcome of a Randomized Controlled Trial. Journal of voice : official journal of the Voice Foundation Intensive voice treatment (LSVT LOUD) significantly improved voice quality in people with Parkinson's disease, with gains lasting six months. This was a secondary outcome of the trial. Articulation-focused treatment showed no immediate change. SLP Systematic Review 2024 Measuring speech intelligibility with deaf and hard-of-hearing children: A systematic review. Journal of deaf studies and deaf education No agreed-upon measure exists for assessing how well deaf children are understood. Only 24% of the 204 studies reviewed explained why they chose their test. Combining a rating scale with a word-accuracy score may give the most complete picture. SLP Meta-Analysis 2024 Impact of reading intervention on the phonological awareness of children with autism spectrum disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis. CoDAS Reading intervention improved phonological awareness by 6.21 points on the TOPEL scale in children with ASD. This held after removing the study that contributed most to the overall estimate. Individual studies were mixed: two showed no gain, one showed a decline after training ended. SLP Other 2026 Speech Sound Acquisition in Urdu-Speaking Children. Folia phoniatrica et logopaedica : official organ of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) Urdu-speaking children's speech accuracy plateaus around age 5, but consonant mastery is slower than in most other languages studied. Only one consonant reached the 90% mastery threshold by age 6. This is the typical pattern for Urdu, not a sign of disorder. SLP Pilot 2026 Emotional Vocalizations Cause Auditory Distraction That Affects Word Repetition and Behavioral Listening Effort. Ear and hearing Emotional vocalizations (pleasant, neutral, or unpleasant) slowed secondary-task responses in both quiet and noise, but did not meaningfully reduce word repetition. The emotion of the sound had no specific trial-by-trial distraction effect beyond a general slowing. SLP Other 2026 The Effect of Deep Neural Network Implementation on Speech Recognition, Listening Effort, and Sound Quality in Older Adults With Mild to Moderately Severe Hearing Loss. Trends in hearing DNN noise reduction combined with beamforming in a Phonak hearing aid outperformed DNN alone, traditional noise reduction with beamforming, and no processing across speech recognition, clarity, total impression, listening effort, and background noise awareness in 20 older adults with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. SLP Meta-Analysis 2026 Intervention Effects on Phonological Processing in Children With Developmental Speech and/or Language Disorder: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Studies With Group Design. International journal of language & communication disorders Oral language interventions improved phonological awareness and short-term memory in children with speech or language disorders, with medium-to-large effects. Small-group delivery and integrated approaches showed the strongest results. Evidence for rapid naming is too thin to draw conclusions. SLP Systematic Review 2026 Gaps and Future Directions in the Research About Masking and Voice Production: Bibliometric Analysis, Systematic Literature Review, and Meta-analysis. Journal of voice : official journal of the Voice Foundation A facemask does not measurably alter the qualities of a person's voice on standard tests, but users consistently report more effort, throat fatigue, and communication difficulty. The one pooled measure (loudness) did not differ across eight studies. SLP Pilot 2026 Speech Perception and Phonological Awareness Skills in Thai-Speaking Children with Speech Sound Disorders. Folia phoniatrica et logopaedica : official organ of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) Thai-speaking preschoolers with mild-to-moderate speech sound disorders scored the same as typically developing peers on five speech perception and phonological awareness tasks once age and vocabulary were taken into account. A few individual children fell below the typical range. SLP Cohort 2026 Hearing aid fitting: analysis of the impact on the auditory system during the first year of use in moderate and severe hearing loss. CoDAS Hearing aids improved speech-in-quiet scores and reduced self-reported social and emotional restriction over 12 months, but the P300 brain response showed no measurable change. The electrophysiological test did not detect the changes the behavioral tests did. SLP Qualitative 2026 Parental Perspectives and Experiences of Working With Speech and Language Therapists to Support Home Practice for Their Child With a Speech Sound Disorder: A Qualitative Study. International journal of language & communication disorders Parents of young children with speech sound disorder said the SLT's connection with their child was the biggest factor in whether they did home practice. Active involvement in sessions and clear instructions made them feel capable. Long gaps between appointments were the main barrier. SLP Other 2026 Advantages of Fluctuating Noise for Measuring Speech Intelligibility in Listeners With Hearing Loss. Trends in hearing A speech test using fluctuating noise from the sides reveals hearing difficulties in mild hearing loss that the standard front-facing stationary-noise test misses. Even with amplification, a performance gap versus normal hearing persists, meaning some listeners need more than just gain. SLP Other 2026 Perceptual Adaptation to Noise-Vocoded Voice Clones. Trends in hearing AI voice clones stayed more intelligible than the original human voice even after degradation that strips harmonic detail. A 13% accuracy advantage that held. Listeners adapted to both at similar rates, but hearing human speech first slightly hurt later recognition of cloned speech. SLP Other 2026 Preliminary validation of the Brazilian version of SPRouT for screening reading difficulties. CoDAS The Brazilian SPRouT checklist tracked with phonological awareness, memory, and letter-naming scores in 27 children, but this is a one-time school check with no reliability data and no cut-off, not evidence it works as a clinical screening tool. SLP Other 2026 Auditory Numerosity Judgement Is Driven by Non-Spatial Factors Across Azimuth, Elevation, and Distance. Trends in hearing Listeners consistently undercount how many voices are in a scene, and this undercount is the same whether voices come from left-right, up-down, or near-far. Even though spatial hearing differs enormously across those directions. What drives the estimate is how much frequency-time space the mixture fills. SLP Other 2026 Words for clinical use in speech-language pathology in Brazilian portuguese-speaking children: a focus on familiarity and representativeness from expert judges. CoDAS Twenty-one judges rated 480 candidate words and 146 were kept for a word bank targeting Brazilian Portuguese-speaking children aged 18-36 months. It is a selection of words, not a test of whether using them changes a child's progress. SLP Cohort 2026 Analysis of neural coding of speech in monaural and binaural conditions in children with speech sound disorder. CoDAS Children with phonological disorder showed longer brainstem responses to a speech sound than typically developing children, in every listening condition tested. This objective measure could complement clinical assessment, but the study does not show it tracks therapy progress. SLP Survey 2026 Uptake and Evaluation of a Crosslinguistic Nonword Repetition Test in Clinical and Research Contexts. International journal of language & communication disorders A survey of 109 users of the Crosslinguistic Nonword Repetition Test found 92% considered it useful, mostly for screening multilingual children for DLD. It still lacks norms and practical guidance, so treat it as one part of a battery, not a standalone diagnosis. SLP Other 2026 How Temporal Overlap in Task Processing and Acoustic Load Affect Listening Effort in Adults. Trends in hearing In 25 normal-hearing young adults, splitting attention between listening and a visual task raised listening effort more than background speech noise did, even though word understanding stayed around 90%. Mild room echo in quiet actually lowered effort compared to a dead-silent room. SLP Other 2026 Listening Effort in Complex Audiovisual Scenes Under Varying Simulated Room Acoustic Conditions. Trends in hearing Reverberation in a virtual office reduced memory for spoken stories and increased listening effort compared to anechoic conditions, but reducing the reverberation time from 1.0 s to 0.5 s made no measurable difference. Within a realistic office range, the specific level may not matter. SLP Other 2026 Phonological Awareness and Nonword Repetition in Children With and Without Speech Sound Disorders: A Comparative Analysis. International journal of language & communication disorders Children with speech sound disorders scored lower than typically developing peers on phonological awareness and nonword repetition, even after accounting for language ability. Their speech difficulties appear to extend beyond motor production into how they process and hold sounds in memory. SLP Other 2026 Network Models for Assessing the Co-occurrence Between Stuttering and ADHD. International journal of language & communication disorders Attention, fluency, and phonological memory connect differently in adults who stutter versus those with ADHD or no condition. In stuttering, attention and phonological memory are not linked the same way, but fluency and phonological memory are more tightly connected. The formal test was not significant. ← Previous PAGE 12 OF 12 Next →
