RN Other 2025 Applying natural language processing to understand symptoms among older adult home healthcare patients with urinary incontinence. Journal of nursing scholarship : an official publication of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Only 29% of home healthcare episodes for older adults with urinary incontinence had symptoms documented in notes. Anxiety was most common, urinary symptoms rare. Episodes for Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Hispanic patients were less likely to have any symptoms documented than White patients. RN Systematic Review 2025 Cultural Influences, Experiences and Interventions Targeting Self-Management Behaviours for Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes in First-Generation Immigrants: A Scoping Review. Journal of advanced nursing Adult first-generation immigrants with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes reported language barriers, limited health literacy, cost, family roles and cultural beliefs shaping self-management. Culturally tailored education, interpreters, family and peer support, and flexible scheduling were described as supports. RN Pilot 2024 Evaluation of a Cohort-Based Healthy Aging With HIV Wellness Pilot Intervention: "People Aging and Thriving With HIV" in Colorado. The Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care : JANAC In older adults with HIV, weekly steps did not show improvement in this wellness pilot, and depression, physical function, quality of life, and social isolation also did not show improvement. Participants liked it, but the study does not show it works. PT OT RN Pilot 2024 A Pilot Home-Telehealth Program to Enhance Functional Ability, Physical Performance, and Physical Activity in Older Adult Veterans Post-Hospital Discharge. Research in gerontological nursing A 6-month home telehealth program with a physical activity trainer nearly doubled daily steps in older veterans post-discharge. Functional ability and physical performance showed modest, non-significant improvements. High dropout rates and small sample size limit conclusions on efficacy. PT RN Systematic Review 2024 Cultural Tailoring and Implementation Science for Cardiometabolic Interventions in Asian Americans: A Systematic Review. Nursing open Only three of nine studies in Asian American adults found significant weight, blood pressure, or A1C changes, although nine reported improvements in knowledge, self-efficacy, or behavior. Interventions varied widely, so no single culturally tailored approach is proven. RN RCT 2025 Nurse-Led Mobile Phone Intervention to Promote Self-Management in Type 2 Diabetes in Ghana: A Randomized Controlled Trial. The science of diabetes self-management and care Nurse-led phone calls plus usual care did not improve blood sugar or self-management more than usual care alone. Both groups improved, but the extra calls added no significant benefit over standard clinic visits. RN RCT 2025 The Impact of Hospice Care on the Prognosis, Quality of Life, and Emotional Well-being of Patients With Chronic Heart Failure. PT OT RN Other 2024 Purposes and characteristics of virtual reality technologies for the elderly in the community: a scoping review. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Community older adults used VR for balance, gait, strength, cognition, mood, and leisure. Devices included screens, Kinect, goggles, and sensors; only four studies reported dizziness, nausea or anxiety, so safety reporting was incomplete. RN Survey 2024 Quality of home visits by community health workers in primary care and associated factors. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Just 51.9% of home visits by community health workers met the study's full set of quality actions. Teams that defined catchment areas, monitored health indicators, assessed user satisfaction, and used risk criteria were more likely to have adequate visits. RN Survey 2024 Development and Testing of the Comprehensive Prenatal Care Index: Relationship With Preterm Birth and Small for Gestational Age Across Racial and Ethnic Groups. Journal of midwifery & women's health Comprehensive prenatal care quality, including counseling and screening content, was associated with lower odds of preterm birth across racial and ethnic groups. It did not consistently predict small for gestational age. Visit count alone did not capture care quality. RN Case Report 2024 Negative pressure therapy in pediatric patient with surgical site infection: experience report. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P In a child with an infected abdominal surgical wound, surgery, cleaning, dressings, skin barriers and negative pressure therapy were followed by reduced wound size and wound assessment scores. This single case cannot prove any component worked. RN Qualitative 2025 Using Collective Intelligence to Develop Design Requirements for a Complex Intervention for Advance Care Planning in the Community. Journal of clinical nursing Community dwellers, families and professionals named 109 barriers to advance care planning in Ireland, including fear, low awareness, unclear processes, family conflict and lack of time or tools. These are design requirements, not tested care changes. RN Survey 2024 Smartphone and tablet use pattern in children up to 5 years old in Spain: a cross-sectional study. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem 44.7% of parents of children aged 3 months to 5 years reported smartphone or tablet use. Older children used devices more often. Smartphone use was linked to parent education, tablet use to siblings and parent age. RN Other 2025 Nurse-Administered Screening Tools for Detecting Elder Abuse in Emergency Departments: A Scoping Review. Journal of advanced nursing No nurse-administered screening tool is the gold standard for detecting elder abuse in emergency departments. The ED Senior AID tool showed the strongest validation data, but most tools rely on subjective judgement, lack reliability testing, or were not designed specifically for nurses. PT RN Pilot 2024 Feasibility of Using Rebound Exercise in Community-Dwelling Adults With Neurological Disorders. Nursing & health sciences Supervised mini-trampoline rebound exercise was feasible and safe for community-dwelling adults with neurological disorders: 52 of 53 completed 12 weeks with no adverse events. Walking speed, blood pressure and activity improved, but without a control group efficacy is not proven. RN Qualitative 2024 Healthcare needs and expectations of family members caring for mental healthcare users in South Africa. Curationis Family caregivers described physical, psychological, social, financial, educational and spiritual needs. They expected medication access, home visits and day care rehabilitation. These are caregiver reports, not evidence that services improve outcomes. RN Cohort 2024 Validation of Spanish Version of the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS-Sp) in Nursing Professionals. Nursing open A Spanish survey of 325 nurses showed the scale reliably captures their views on spiritual care, but its underlying structure differs from the original English version. Use the total score for training needs assessments, but do not rely on the original four subscales. RN Qualitative 2025 A Narrative Exploration of Family Members' Perspectives of Life Story Phases Following Transition of an Older Family Relative Into Long-Term Care. International journal of older people nursing Family members described life-story phases after moving an older parent into long-term care: before transition, crisis, transition, and after. They felt unprepared, with relief and guilt. Matching information and family support to each phase could help nurses. RN RCT 2025 The feasibility of sharing digital audio-recordings of clinic visits online with older adults in primary care settings: A multisite trial. Patient education and counseling Older adults with diabetes and hypertension found online visit recordings feasible to use; 40 of 45 recording-group patients accessed recordings, and retention was 98%. Patients and clinicians reported recordings helped recall, but the trial was not powered to prove health benefits. RN Survey 2024 Factors Associated With Adolescents' Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Intention: A Cross-Sectional Survey. Nursing open Unvaccinated adolescents who felt at higher risk and saw supports like trusted advice, affordability and access reported stronger intention to get HPV vaccination. Knowledge alone was not linked to intention. Many were interested in games or social media. RN Qualitative 2024 Exploring sociocultural factors and ubuntuism for women living with HIV in rural Zimbabwe. Curationis Rural Zimbabwean women living with HIV described being excluded from community health and empowerment activities after disclosure. Patriarchal blame, loss of land, and education restrictions were reported alongside stress, isolation, and reduced access to care. OT RN Qualitative 2025 Perceptions of Frail Older Adults on Contributing Factors Causing the Onset of Crises Leading to Hospital Admissions: A Qualitative Study. Journal of advanced nursing Frail older adults saw a fall, UTI or dizziness as the reason for the emergency department visit, but described months of unaddressed decline, stigma around frailty and delayed help-seeking. RN Qualitative 2025 Co-creating an Indigenous-led virtual health services model for Indigenous Australians living with chronic disease. The Australian journal of rural health Indigenous consumers valued a virtual chronic disease service when they could control their own readings and when support came from local, culturally connected health coaches. More welcoming, less clinical technology and fewer device steps may help uptake. RN Other 2025 HPV Vaccine Hesitancy and Uptake: A Conceptual Analysis Using Rodgers' Evolutionary Approach. Journal of advanced nursing Nurses discussing HPV vaccination may find hesitancy linked to safety fears, misinformation, cultural beliefs, low perceived risk, cost and access, and trust in providers. RN RCT 2025 Perceptions of Coping With Breastfeeding Pain: A Secondary Analysis. Journal of midwifery & women's health Thirty of 57 parents said coping with breastfeeding pain felt different, describing it as new, time-limited, and tied to infant care; some feared failure. Pain scores did not differ between these parents and others. RN Qualitative 2025 Playing the Admission Game: Young People and Their Parents Negotiating Access or Discharge to Adolescent Inpatient Mental Health Services. Journal of child and adolescent psychiatric nursing : official publication of the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses, Inc Young people and parents described little choice or control over admission, discharge and care in adolescent inpatient mental health services. They said physical risk and visible distress mattered more than reported emotional distress, and families often felt they had to advocate hard to get care. RN Other 2025 The Effect of Reminiscence Therapy on the Assessment of Depression, Anxiety and Self-Esteem in Community-Dwelling Older Adults: An Intervention Study. International journal of older people nursing In 24 community-dwelling older adults, 12 weeks of group reminiscence sessions were followed by lower depression and anxiety scores and higher self-esteem scores. Quality of life scores did not improve. RN Survey 2024 The impact of perception bias for cardiovascular disease risk on physical activity and dietary habits. International journal of nursing sciences Most adults misjudged their cardiovascular risk. Many overestimated it, but people with high calculated risk often underestimated it. Those who underestimated it also reported less healthy eating. PT RN Qualitative 2024 An Outdoor Walking Program for Immigrant Muslim Older Adults: A Community-Based Participatory Intervention. Nursing open Older immigrant Muslim adults reported a 10-week outdoor walking program was acceptable and motivating when sessions included social time, language and cultural support, and Fitbit step tracking. Transportation and activity literacy were main barriers. RN Pilot 2025 Implementation of a Pilot Study in Adolescent Health Care Transition Program for Chronic Granulomatous Disease: A Single Institution Experience. Journal of pediatric health care : official publication of National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates & Practitioners A nurse-led transition education program was acceptable to young people with chronic granulomatous disease, but knowledge scores did not clearly improve. It identified topics, formats, and gaps, not evidence the program works. RN Systematic Review 2024 Strategies for expanding vaccination coverage in children in Brazil: systematic literature review. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Bolsa Família conditionalities did not improve child vaccination coverage overall; reminders raised completeness, and home-visit monitoring helped identify unvaccinated children. RN Qualitative 2024 Self-management behavior preferences and influencing factors in Chinese patients with recurrent gout: A qualitative study. International journal of nursing sciences Chinese patients with recurrent gout described poor self-care. They underestimated gout, took painkillers only during attacks, delayed clinic visits, and found diet, water, and exercise hard to maintain. Their beliefs and stigma shaped these habits. RN Pilot 2025 Development of and Testing Novel Questionnaires Assessing Palliative Care-Related Knowledge, Attitudes, and Confidence Among Home Healthcare Clinicians, Patients, and Caregivers. Home healthcare now Home healthcare clinicians and patients/caregivers often lacked accurate pain and opioid knowledge, while attitudes toward palliative care were positive. The new questionnaires can measure this, but they do not prove training improves care. RN Other 2025 Enhancing primary healthcare in under-resourced communities with mobile health clinics. Nursing Haiti mobile clinics screened over 4,900 individuals from 2015 to 2019, found hypertension, diabetes, infections, and other conditions, referred critical cases to hospitals, and taught water purification and warning signs. It is a service model, not proven outcomes. RN Qualitative 2024 Health literacy development of Primary Health Care patients: qualitative research. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Patients with chronic disease said they built health knowledge mainly through family, friends, social media, body sensations and trusted professionals. These relationships shaped self-care, while online information was useful for learning but less helpful for acting on care. RN Narrative Review 2025 Contributing Factors to the Rise in Adolescent Anxiety and Associated Mental Health Disorders: A Narrative Review of Current Literature. Nurses can use these factors to ask targeted questions and counsel families. RN Qualitative 2025 Family Caregivers' Experiences of Long-Term Care Residents Living With Dementia During the COVID-19 Pandemic: An International Grounded Theory Study. Journal of advanced nursing Family caregivers of people with dementia in long-term care described lockdowns as painful exclusion. They fought to keep connection, distrusted inconsistent care, and found video calls inadequate without staff support. RN Other 2025 Characteristics of Patients With Community-Acquired Pressure Injuries. Nursing open Hospital records grouped 272 patients admitted with pressure injuries already present into three clusters: chronic disease with preserved daily function, low function needing discharge planning, and very high risk with dementia, malnutrition, persistent wounds, and more in-hospital deaths. PT OT RN Meta-Analysis 2025 Non-Pharmacological Interventions Targeting Sense of Coherence Among Older Adults and Adults With Chronic Conditions: A Meta-Analysis With Trial Sequential Analysis. Journal of advanced nursing Non-drug programmes improved older adults' and chronic disease patients' sense of coherence, their confidence that life is manageable, for up to 3 months. Salutogenic programmes had short-term benefit; self-management was less firm; exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy and nurse-led education did not show stable benefit. RN RCT 2024 The Leaky Preexposure Prophylaxis Cascade-Barriers and Facilitators to Preexposure Prophylaxis Uptake and Adherence Among Youth Experiencing Homelessness in the US South: A Mixed Methods Study. The Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care : JANAC Among 44 youth experiencing homelessness who chose PrEP, only 22 got a prescription, and most urine tests showed nonadherence. Nurses need to address side-effect fears, stigma, housing, and navigation support early. RN RCT 2025 Effects of a self-efficacy-centered self-management program on neurogenic bladder after spinal cord injury: A randomized controlled trial. Japan journal of nursing science : JJNS A 12-week multi-component bladder program improved self-management, self-efficacy, vitality and mental health, reduced UTIs, lowered residual urine, and increased bladder capacity versus routine education and follow-up. The self-efficacy gain was small and seen only at 12 weeks. OT RN Survey 2024 Factors affecting return to work in breast cancer survivors in Korea: a cross-sectional study. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) Among Korean breast cancer survivors who had worked before diagnosis, being single, 2 to 5 years after diagnosis, less anxious preoccupation and better quality of working life were linked with returning to work. RN Survey 2025 Parent-Adolescent Communication, Self-Efficacy, and Self-Management of Type 1 Diabetes in Adolescents. The science of diabetes self-management and care Adolescents with type 1 diabetes who reported more confidence in managing diabetes and more open parent-adolescent communication also reported better diabetes self-management and greater engagement in managing their care. This cross-sectional survey cannot show cause. RN Other 2025 Preconception Care: A Concept Analysis of an Evolving Paradigm. Journal of advanced nursing Preconception care is described here as care before pregnancy for anyone who may become pregnant, not only women planning conception. It covers lifestyle, mental health, social and environmental risks, and spans childhood and the time between pregnancies. RN Survey 2025 Factors Influencing Telehealth Satisfaction Among Liver and Kidney Transplant Recipients. Clinical nursing research Transplant recipients were generally satisfied with telehealth, but those less confident talking with providers and less comfortable using online health information were less satisfied. Better self-rated thinking and longer time since transplant also linked to lower satisfaction. RN Survey 2025 Measuring Food and Water Security in an Aboriginal Community in Regional Australia. The Australian journal of rural health Almost half of surveyed adults in Walgett were food insecure and 44% water insecure; 30% had both. People reported spending $30 to $50 a week on bottled water, and many relied on it because water was seen as poor quality. RN Qualitative 2025 Maternity behind and beyond bars: analysis from the perspective of protection bioethics. Revista brasileira de enfermagem In two Brazilian prison units, mothers and staff described mother-child spaces as lacking basic hygiene, supplies and social contact. These gaps were described as worsening illness, psychological harm and maternal-child vulnerability. RN Systematic Review 2025 Prevalent symptoms and characteristics of the Long COVID-19 population: a scoping review. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Fatigue, shortness of breath, smell or taste changes, anxiety, and memory or thinking problems were the symptoms most often reported in Long COVID; adults of both sexes were affected, and diabetes and hypertension were common comorbidities. RN Qualitative 2025 The Impact of Relocations Within Nursing Home Care on Long-Term Care Residents According to Stakeholders: A Qualitative Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Residents' reactions to moving within nursing homes varied widely. Stakeholders said familiar caregivers, personal items, clear communication and social ties helped residents settle, while sudden moves and unfamiliar staff could add distress. RN Other 2024 Psychometric testing of the cross-culturally adapted Thai version of the Self-Care Self-Efficacy Scale version 3.0 in individuals with chronic illnesses. International journal of nursing sciences Thai adults with chronic illness reported confidence in self-care on a 10-item scale that separated into daily routine confidence and symptom management confidence.
