Views of Advanced Nurse Practitioners on Their Roles and Responsibilities in Community Care for Home-Dwelling Patients: A Qualitative Descriptive Study.

The study reports ANPs' own perceptions, not measured patient outcomes or a comparison with other care. Participants were volunteers, so they may have been more motivated or interested in role development than other ANPs. No participant feedback was returned, so member checking did not verify the themes. The 120-minute focus groups may have limited how deeply each participant's experience was explored. Findings come from Dutch ANPs with specific legal authority and autonomy, so they may not transfer to other countries or settings. Only ANPs were interviewed, not patients, families, GPs, community nurses or other professionals. Participants may have answered in a socially desirable way when describing their own role.
