Nursing open Chinese immigrants with diabetes or high risk reported higher health literacy when English or Chinese-language proficiency was stronger. 75.6% were willing to receive Australian diabetes materials in Chinese, but 19.7% had received Chinese-language diabetes information from major Australian diabetes bodies. Longer-term recovery participants more often described self-care routines. It does not show these supports improve outcomes. RN Qualitative 2025 Social networks as facilitators and barriers to behavior change among U.S. South Asian adult participants of a culturally adapted, group lifestyle intervention. Patient education and counseling South Asian adults in a lifestyle program said family and group peers helped them eat better and be active, but caregiving duties, language barriers, and community norms could block change. Clinicians can ask which network members support or resist changes. RN Other 2025 Learning & motivational talk in smoking cessation interventions: An examination of session language in two randomized trials. Patient education and counseling In smoking cessation sessions with unmotivated smokers, health education had more client learning talk, while motivational interviewing had more change talk and sustain talk. Rejection talk was more common in health education sessions. Learning talk was rare, less than 5% of client utterances. RN Qualitative 2025 The Experiences of Patients Enrolled in Community Mental Health Centers Regarding the Illness Process: A Phenomenological Study. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Patients at Turkish community mental health centres described relief and confidence after diagnosis and medication, but also sadness, stigma, isolation, inability to work, and reliance on family support. The paper reports similar themes in eastern and western regions. RN Qualitative 2024 Experiences and Supportive Care Needs of Latinx Millennial Caregivers. Journal of transcultural nursing : official journal of the Transcultural Nursing Society Latinx Millennial family caregivers described juggling work, family, and caregiving as 'super caregivers,' while facing financial and healthcare access barriers. They asked for respite, caregiver connections, education, and support that recognizes their family and social context. RN Narrative Review 2024 Remote Patient Monitoring at Home in Patients With COVID-19: Narrative Review. JMIR nursing Remote monitoring of COVID-19 patients at home did not significantly reduce hospital visits, readmissions, length of stay, or mortality compared with usual care. Patients generally felt reassured by the approach, but evidence remains too heterogeneous to confirm clinical benefits or cost savings. RN Qualitative 2024 Stakeholder Perspectives on Research, Policy and Practice Priorities to Increase Human Milk Feeding Rates in the United Kingdom. They wanted earlier antenatal education, funded peer groups, family inclusion, and less formula advertising. These are views, not tested changes. RN Qualitative 2024 Patient-Perceived Challenges to Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Qualitative Exploratory Study. The science of diabetes self-management and care Patients in Ethiopia described barriers to diabetes self-management including using herbal remedies instead of medication due to cultural beliefs, inability to afford insulin or syringes, and social pressure to eat unhealthy food at communal meals. These findings highlight the need for culturally tailored education and financial support. RN Qualitative 2024 Telelactation Within the Landscape of Breastfeeding Support: Experiences of Latina Parents. Journal of human lactation : official journal of International Lactation Consultant Association Latina parents viewed telelactation as a high-quality but burdensome option, using it only after exhausting easier resources like internet searches. They preferred starting with direct messaging or FAQs before escalating to video calls, and wanted their pediatricians to endorse the service. RN Qualitative 2025 Exploring the Impact of Cognitive Dysfunction During Recurrent Depression in a Sample of Mid-to-Older Age British South Asians: A Qualitative Study. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Twelve British South Asian adults with recurrent depression described memory and attention problems that made conversations, daily tasks and prayers exhausting. They said this led to withdrawal and self-blame. RN Systematic Review 2025 The Transition of Care Between Emergency Department and Primary Care: An Integrative Systematic Review. Journal of clinical nursing Many patients struggled to get primary care after emergency department discharge because of cost, insurance, appointment access, unclear instructions and poor communication. Having insurance, a regular primary care provider and clear discharge support helped follow-up. RN Survey 2024 Assessing the Disruption of Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic Among Adults Living With HIV by Age in Essex County, NJ: A Cross-Sectional Study. The Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care : JANAC In 133 adults living with HIV, age groups did not differ across COVID-19 outcomes. Older adults were more likely to report missing HIV medication doses. Most could reach HIV care by telemedicine. RN Systematic Review 2025 The Influence of Patient-Provider Communication on Self-Management Among Patients With Chronic Illness: A Systematic Mixed Studies Review. Journal of advanced nursing Patients with chronic illness reported managing their condition better when providers explained disease-specific information in plain language, linked test results to symptoms, and considered their daily life. Communication mattered, but this review did not prove any one communication method works. RN Other 2025 A Hybrid Concept Analysis of Frailty Among Older Adults Living in the Community. Journal of advanced nursing Frailty is not just physical decline. Seven community-dwelling older adults defined it by powerlessness and life changes, rejecting the label despite meeting clinical criteria. Nurses should assess psychosocial resilience and avoid using the term 'frail' without care. RN Cohort 2025 Predictive model for the risk of paediatric intensive care utilization in children with medical complexity: A longitudinal retrospective cohort study. Nursing in critical care 47.2% of children with medical complexity were admitted to intensive care over six years. Malignancy, surgery, transplant, home devices, comorbidities and more health contacts raised risk. Younger age and higher maternal education lowered it. RN Cohort 2025 Successful Aging and Self-Neglect Among Community-Dwelling Older People. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) Self-neglect is a strong predictor of lower successful aging scores in community-dwelling older adults. Higher perceived social support predicts better aging outcomes. Screening for self-neglect and assessing social networks are practical steps for nurses supporting older people in primary care. RN Survey 2025 The Relationship Between Discomfort Intolerance And the Fear Of Self-Injection And Testing In Patients With Diabetes Using Insulin: A Cross-Sectional Study. Journal of clinical nursing Among adults with diabetes who inject insulin, higher discomfort tolerance was linked to lower fear of self-injection and finger-prick testing. Nurses can ask about these fears during diabetes education, but this survey did not test whether reducing fear improves control. RN Systematic Review 2025 Barriers and Facilitators to Mental Health Service Integration: A Scoping Review. International journal of mental health nursing Clinical outcomes were not consistently better in integrated mental health models, although some showed better access, screening, referral or care quality. Barriers included staff confidence, workload, territorialism and funding. RN Qualitative 2024 Pregnant women's experiences of online prenatal education in Korea during COVID-19: a phenomenological study. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) Pregnant women found online prenatal education safe and convenient, allowing them to learn from home without travel or infection risk. However, they felt isolated by the lack of interaction, hesitant to ask personal questions, and distracted by the passive nature of the lectures. RN Qualitative 2025 Understanding Older Persons' Experiences of Care Encounters in the Home Environment: A Hermeneutic Study. Journal of advanced nursing Older people described home care visits as a lottery because they could not choose which nurse came. They valued nurses who listened and explained, but felt overlooked when visits were rushed or nurses changed. RN Survey 2024 Factors influencing happiness and depression in high-risk pregnant women: a cross-sectional study using the ecological systems approach. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) High-risk pregnant women had high stress; 51% were at depression risk, and hospitalized women had lower happiness and higher depression. Mindfulness, marital intimacy, social support and outpatient status were linked to greater happiness. RN Systematic Review 2024 Parents' Experiences of Accessing Mental Health Services for Their Adolescents With Mental Health Challenges: A Scoping Review. Journal of clinical nursing Parents describe fragmented mental health services, waits up to 18 months, and feeling unheard. Many bring adolescents to emergency departments for care; clear communication, family involvement, and privacy were valued. OT RN Systematic Review 2025 The Experiences and Perceptions of Telehealth in Patients Living With Advanced Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Qualitative Evidence Synthesis. Journal of advanced nursing Patients with advanced COPD described telehealth as supporting independence, symptom monitoring and connection to clinicians, but small screens, poor internet, cost, privacy worries and fixed call times made it burdensome. RN Qualitative 2025 Perceptions of brain health and aging among middle-aged latinos: A qualitative paper. Patient education and counseling Middle-aged Latino adults linked brain health to memory, cognition, physical health, social connection, emotions and mental health. They described actions to keep the brain healthy, but unhealthy aging was mostly described as memory loss. They suggested education through media and community settings. RN Other 2024 Translation and Validation of the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire in Indonesian Patients With Type 2 Diabetes. The science of diabetes self-management and care A translated 23-item diabetes knowledge questionnaire gave consistent scores and identified common knowledge gaps in 304 Indonesian adults with type 2 diabetes. It can help clinics plan diabetes education. RN Cohort 2024 Utilization of Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Among Medicare Beneficiaries Newly Diagnosed With Diabetes in Arkansas, 12 Months Postdiagnosis (2015-2018). The science of diabetes self-management and care Only 4% of newly diagnosed older adults with type 2 diabetes used diabetes self-management education within a year. Use was lower in Medicare Advantage, rural areas, Black beneficiaries, and those aged 85 and over. RN Other 2024 Effect of Emergency Scenario-Based Training Program on Knowledge, Self-confidence, and Competency of Elderly Caregiver Volunteers in a Rural Thai Community: A Quasi-Experimental Study. International journal of community based nursing and midwifery Knowledge and self-confidence did not show a clear change after emergency scenario training for rural Thai caregivers, but competency scores rose. RN Survey 2025 Evaluation of Psychological Symptoms in Terms of Childhood Traumas, Spirituality, and Conflict Tactics in Sheltered Battered Women. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) Sheltered women in Türkiye reported high psychological distress; 64.1% had a psychiatric diagnosis and 37.5% had attempted suicide. Childhood abuse, witnessed parental violence and lower spiritual well-being were linked to more distress. This did not test cause and effect. RN Other 2025 Indirect Effects of Municipal Public Health Nurse Workforce on Cancer Standardized Mortality Ratios Mediated by Cancer Screening Rates. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) More public health nurses in a municipality linked to higher cancer screening rates, which in turn linked to lower cancer death rates. This was an ecological study of areas, not patients, so it cannot prove hiring nurses causes the drop. RN Survey 2025 Social Media Addiction and Cognitive Behavioral Physical Activity Among Adolescent Girls: A Cross-Sectional Study. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) Adolescent girls who used the internet two hours or more daily had higher social media addiction and lower physical activity attitude scores. Those who saw themselves as inactive also showed the same pattern. RN RCT 2024 Participants' Perspectives on Diabetes Self-Management Programming at Church: Faith-Placed Versus Faith-Based Approach. The science of diabetes self-management and care Both groups of Hispanic churchgoers with diabetes or elevated A1C described better knowledge, skills, and daily self-management after a church-based program. Faith-based participants especially valued trusted lay leaders and scripture, and participants wanted ongoing support and flexible sessions. RN Systematic Review 2025 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer People's Experiences of Stigma Across the Spectrum of Inpatient Psychiatric Care: A Systematic Review. International journal of mental health nursing LGBTQ+ patients in inpatient psychiatric care reported pervasive stigma from admission to discharge, including misgendering, pathologisation of identity, and unsafe rooming. Nurses, who provide around-the-clock care, are identified as key to implementing affirming practices and reducing this harm. RN Qualitative 2025 Experience Using Multi-Technology for Fall Risk Assessments Among Low-Income Community-Dwelling Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment. Journal of gerontological nursing Fourteen older adults with mild cognitive impairment found fall-risk devices acceptable, but needed simple instructions and support. For nurses, teach device use step by step and check for balance or charging problems before relying on results. RN Case Report 2025 Acute Cystitis in a Transfeminine Patient: Assessment and Treatment of Urinary Tract Symptoms. Journal of midwifery & women's health A transfeminine patient developed acute cystitis after tucking with tape. Urinalysis showed blood, leukocytes, and nitrite, and she was treated with antibiotics. She reported all symptoms resolved three days later. Gender identity alone does not tell clinicians which genital anatomy to assess. RN Survey 2025 The Mediating Role of Health Empowerment in the Relationship Between Social Support and Loneliness Among Nursing Home Residents: A Correlational Study. Journal of advanced nursing Nursing home residents who reported more social support also reported more health empowerment and less loneliness. Empowerment partly explained this link. The study cannot show that increasing support reduces loneliness. RN Qualitative 2025 Disentangling gender, sex, and biology: a mixed methods study of gender identity data collection tools. Patient education and counseling More transgender and gender diverse adults preferred the usual gender identity questions over community-developed ones. They found terms unclear, wanted questions optional, and said safety shaped whether they answered. RN Qualitative 2024 Unplanned pregnancy at advanced maternal age: analysis in light of Transition Theory. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Women aged 35 or older with unplanned pregnancy described shock, fear, age stigma and financial strain, but used faith, family, neighbours and prenatal care to cope. RN Systematic Review 2024 Use of Telenursing in the conservative treatment of patients with chronic renal insufficiency: scoping review. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Remote nursing tools for chronic kidney disease were mapped in nine articles and one dissertation. Included studies reported improved adherence, self-care, monitoring and education, but this scoping review cannot show how much benefit patients get. Nursing & health sciences Community older adults with two or more chronic conditions had self-reported sarcopenia more often: 43.5% versus 20.8%. Consider SARC-F to flag low strength, walking assistance, rising, stairs and falls in multimorbid patients. RN Cohort 2024 Parental norms and perceptions regarding use of mobile devices by children under five years. Revista latino-americana de enfermagem Spanish parents who allowed children under five to use smartphones or tablets without time limits reported higher daily use. Using devices to entertain or as reward was also linked to more screen time, and use was higher when the father was absent. RN Qualitative 2024 Experiences of access and use of primary health care by users with systemic arterial hypertension. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P People with hypertension in Brazilian primary care said appointments took one to three months, medicines were missing, lab results were delayed, and almost none had been invited to education groups. Users reported difficulty distinguishing nurses from technicians. PT OT RN RCT 2024 mHealth-Based Self-Management Program for Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Study. Nursing & health sciences Quality of life and disease activity did not differ between groups, though nurse-led mHealth self-management improved knowledge, confidence controlling symptoms, perceived health, depression levels and physical activity at some time points. RN Other 2025 Developing a clinical decision support framework for integrating predictive models into routine nursing practices in home health care for patients with heart failure. Journal of nursing scholarship : an official publication of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Recent visit patterns, missed visits, and documented symptoms were among the strongest model signals of heart failure emergency risk, not routine vital signs. A proposed EHR alert could give nurses a four-day window before hospitalization or emergency visits. RN RCT 2025 Implementing Resourcefulness Training© with Parent Caregivers of Children Dependent on Medical Technology During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Lessons Learned from a Randomized Controlled Trial. Clinical nursing research Telehealth caregiver training for parents of technology-dependent children needed constant changes: virtual visits, text reminders, online logs, and preferred contact times. This paper reports delivery problems, not whether the training worked. RN Survey 2025 Determinants of Cervical Cancer Screening Among Rural Women in Zimbabwe. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) Among rural Zimbabwean women, only 274 of 840 had ever been screened for cervical cancer. Screening was less likely in women aged 25 to 45 years and those without medical insurance, and more likely in women living with HIV or with recent malaria. PT OT RN Other 2024 Multidisciplinary Inpatient Community Rehabilitation Programmes for Frail Older People: A Scoping Review. Nursing open Multidisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation for frail older people is reported in few studies, mostly focused on mobility and function. The intervention studies had no control group, and outcomes varied widely, so the review cannot show which programme works. RN Systematic Review 2024 Post-informal caregiver's perspectives and experiences of the support network: a systematic literature review and meta-synthesis. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Adults who had stopped caring described support gaps after care ended: isolation, financial strain, grief, and services that stopped too soon. They wanted continued help, practical guidance, and community connection. RN Other 2025 Estimating the Prevalence of Child Abuse and Neglect Among Adolescents in Primary Care Through Diagnoses Codes and Free-Text EHR Clinical Notes. Journal of pediatric health care : official publication of National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates & Practitioners Adolescent clinical notes contained more suspected or confirmed child abuse and neglect than diagnosis codes: 294 patients versus 111. Primary care providers should review free-text notes, not rely only on coded diagnoses. OT RN Qualitative 2025 Eating Together but Often Feeling Lonely: Residents' Mealtime Experiences in a Nursing Home. Journal of clinical nursing Residents said familiar, tasty, easy-to-chew food mattered most. Stable routines and staff who knew their preferences made mealtimes calmer.
