PT OT SLP RN Other 2025 Palliative Home Care Based on Clinically Relevant Scientific Measures: A Cross-Sectional Study. The American journal of hospice & palliative care Patients with heart failure and dementia and their caregivers rated symptoms similarly, but caregivers reported more concern about pain and information needs. Higher patient symptom scores predicted worse heart health and greater caregiver burden. The practical problems item did not agree between pairs. PT OT RN Other 2026 Gender Differences in Disease Burden, Symptom Burden, and Quality of Life Among People Living With Heart Failure and Multimorbidity: Cross-Sectional Study. Journal of advanced nursing Older women with heart failure and multimorbidity reported higher disease burden, more pain, tiredness, nausea and lack of appetite, and worse quality of life than men. The study was cross-sectional, so it cannot explain causes or show what treatment helps. PT OT RN Cohort 2025 SANTANA Cohort: Study on Frailty in Institutionalised Older Adults and Its Relationship With Gordon's Functional Health Patterns. Journal of advanced nursing In 1245 nursing home residents, frailty was present in 25% at baseline and 51.7% after 5 years. Nurses' activity-exercise and social-relationship assessments tracked frailty, but the study did not test whether this changes patient care. PT OT Systematic Review 2025 Carer Involvement in Rehabilitation for People Living With Dementia: A Systematic Review. Journal of advanced nursing Across 12 main trials, involving carers more was not linked to better outcomes for people with dementia or their carers. Involvement roles varied widely, and the evidence was too mixed to guide practice. PT RN RCT 2025 Digital Health Technologies to Promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity and Reduce Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease in Older Adults: A Pilot Study. The Journal of cardiovascular nursing Older adults at cardiovascular risk reduced calorie intake and increased activity over 12 weeks with counseling, a handbook, a scale, a blood pressure monitor, a transmitter, a Fitbit, and MyFitnessPal. The group receiving texts showed more activity and greater weight loss. PT OT Survey 2025 Black-White Differences in Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) Deserts: Implications for Unmet Care Needs. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Black older adults with care needs reported more adverse consequences overall. White older adults in counties with few community care options also reported more adverse consequences, though the link was not clear after accounting for other factors. Service availability was not linked to Black outcomes. PT RN Cohort 2025 Family Caregiver Availability and Capacity Associated With Home Health Service Types for Patients With Dementia. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association For home health patients with dementia, clinician-reported lack of caregiver capacity for functional tasks was linked to receiving physical therapy; lack of caregiver availability for medical tasks was linked to receiving skilled nursing. PT RN Cohort 2025 Changes in Physical Activity Among Spanish Kidney Transplant Recipients: A 12-Month Longitudinal Study. Journal of renal care Kidney transplant recipients reported lower activity at 3 months after surgery. Activity partly rebounded at 6 months, then fell again, and was lower at 12 months than before transplant. PT OT RN RCT 2025 A Cross-Lagged Panel Model Testing the Impact of Physical Activity During Hospitalization on 1- and 6-Month Discharge Physical Activity and Adverse Events Among Older Adults With Dementia. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Older adults with dementia who were more physically active at hospital discharge had lower odds of falling and being rehospitalized within one month. Activity levels did not drop after these adverse events occurred, suggesting discharge mobility is a key protective factor. PT RN Survey 2025 Cognitive Frailty and Its Risk Factors Among Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease Receiving Hemodialysis: A Cross-Sectional Study. Nursing & health sciences 9% of hemodialysis patients had cognitive frailty, meaning physical frailty, cognitive functional decline and depressive symptoms together. Malnutrition risk and physical inactivity were associated with it. PT OT RN Other 2026 Safe Mobility in Hospitalised Older Adults: A Concept Analysis. Journal of clinical nursing Promote hospitalised older adults' active movement while reducing severe fall and immobility harms, rather than preventing every fall. This concept analysis defines safe mobility; it does not test patient outcomes. PT Qualitative 2026 Mobilisation Alarm Use in Hospitals and Alignment With Person-Centred Practice: A Qualitative Study. Journal of advanced nursing Staff used bed and chair alarms mainly because they felt short-staffed, stressed, and afraid of blame after falls. They knew alarms often annoyed patients, were not answered promptly, and did not fit person-centred care, but still used them as a quick safety net. PT OT Cohort 2025 Development of Prediction Models for Healthy Ageing in Community-Dwelling Middle-Aged and Older Adults: A Longitudinal Study Using Machine Learning. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Older adults predicted to age healthily had higher household wealth, younger age, internet use, normal chair-rise speed, physical activity, no pain, high life satisfaction, and no abdominal obesity. PT OT RN RCT 2025 Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise Package for Enhancing Health in Elderly COPD Patients With Frailty: An Experimental Study. It also reduced frailty scores at one month. The intervention included breathing exercises, bed exercises, and education. PT RN Case Report 2026 Review of Perioperative Care in Elderly Patients With Esophageal Hiatal Hernia and Cardiopulmonary Disease. Gastroenterology nursing : the official journal of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates An 86-year-old man with a large hiatal hernia and heart failure completed laparoscopic repair after multidisciplinary prehabilitation, monitoring, and infection care. He left hospital 11 days after surgery and had no symptoms at 3 and 6 months. PT RN Other 2025 Assessment of Fall Risk in Community-Dwelling Older Adults Using the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries Algorithm. Nursing open STEADI screening found 59.6% of community older adults at fall risk, versus 39.5% by questionnaire alone. Physical tests added mobility, balance, and strength concerns. Participants set goals for safety and exercise. PT OT Cohort 2025 Utilization of Occupational and Physical Therapy Home Health Visits Among People Living With Dementia With Varying Social Determinants of Health. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association People living with dementia had OT and PT home health visit counts not associated with race or neighborhood disadvantage. Care partner-reported PT visits differed from agency records. Baseline ADL gaps did not persist at 30 days. PT OT RN Other 2025 Stigma Towards Hospitalised Older Adults: A Concept Analysis. Nursing open Hospitalised older adults face stigma as age-based assumptions, exclusion from decisions, neglected pain care and rehabilitation, and dismissive communication. These practices are associated with withdrawal, poorer recovery, disability and delayed discharge. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Preventive home visits for older adults centred on autonomy, trust, tailored advice and information. Older adults valued a regular nurse contact, but some healthy or very ill saw little benefit. PT RN Other 2025 Validity of self-reported measures of decreased muscle strength in older adults. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Self-reported strength loss in older adults was not reliable enough to identify weak grip alone. Feeling weaker found many true cases but also many people who were not weak. SARC-F caught fewer true cases but wrongly flagged fewer people. Use handgrip measurement when possible. PT RN Other 2025 Frailty and mobility in hospitalized older adults: an analytical cross sectional study. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Frail hospitalized older adults had much lower mobility than non-frail and prefrail patients. Prefrail and non-frail patients did not differ. This association was measured at admission, so it cannot show frailty caused the mobility loss. PT RN Other 2025 Promoting the Physical Activity of Older Adults in Institutional Long-Term Care: A Mixed-Method Case Study. International journal of older people nursing In one long-term care unit, residents averaged 1.27 hours of light activity daily. It was linked to a lower chance of a 5-point or greater physical health status decline. PT RN Cohort 2025 Cognitive and physical functions among Chinese community-dwelling older adults with motoric cognitive risk syndrome: A prospective cohort study. International journal of nursing sciences In 4,217 Chinese older adults, those with motoric cognitive risk syndrome had lower cognition and physical function, and both groups declined over follow-up. Adults without it showed better global cognition and repeated chair stand performance, but worse visuospatial ability. PT OT RN Cohort 2026 Lagged effects of risk factors on the disability of older adults: A distributed lag non-linear model approach. International journal of nursing sciences Risk factors for disability in older adults follow three distinct timelines. Functional limitations like walking difficulty cause immediate harm within one year, while conditions like depression and hospitalization exert a cumulative burden over three to four years. PT Qualitative 2026 Clinicians' perspectives of pain in older adults with heart failure. Geriatric nursing (New York, N.Y.) Heart failure clinicians often used a 1-10 pain scale, while some focused on chest discomfort and said older adults under-report pain or blame arthritis. They rarely mentioned physical therapy and wanted heart failure-specific tools, resources, and user-friendly apps. PT OT SLP RN Systematic Review 2026 Geriatric Models of Surgical Care: A Scoping Review. Journal of advanced nursing Most models shortened hospital stays, but mortality results were inconsistent. Nurse practitioners performed comprehensive geriatric assessments and coordinated care in 38% of studies. Allied health input appeared in 58% of models, yet functional outcomes and quality of life were rarely measured. PT RN Cohort 2026 Unique contributions of heart failure and chronic pain on physical function and quality of life in older adults. Geriatric nursing (New York, N.Y.) After accounting for age, sex, race, comorbidities, depression and fatigue, heart failure alone was not associated with higher chronic pain prevalence. Older adults with both heart failure and chronic pain had worse quality of life and physical function than those with either or neither. PT OT RN Cohort 2026 Weekly Walking Attenuates the Association Between Frailty and Depressive Symptoms in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis. Research in nursing & health In adults with rheumatoid arthritis, frailty was linked to more depressive symptoms. Walking at least 3.5 days per week appeared to break this link. The association between frailty and depression was no longer significant in those who walked more frequently. PT OT Other 2026 Exploring an Allied Health Student Placement Model in Rural Aged-Care Settings: A UDRH Collaborative Evaluation Using RE-AIM. The Australian journal of rural health Allied health students in rural aged care delivered 71 weeks of services, improving resident access and reducing staff workload. Western journal of nursing research Hospital staff proposed flexible training for all ward roles, visible falls champions, clear patient plans, family communication, interpreters and leadership support to implement a falls prevention education program. The plan has not been evaluated. PT OT RN Other 2026 The Moderating Effect of Physical Activity on the Association Between Cognitive Function and Fear of Falling in Low-Income Community-Dwelling Older Adults. Research in gerontological nursing Cognitive function was not linked to fear of falling in low-income community-dwelling older adults without measured cognitive impairment, and physical activity did not appear to change this link. More sitting time was linked to more fear; more moderate-to-vigorous activity was linked to less fear. PT OT SLP RN Other 2026 Patient-Driven Grouping Model and Home Health Use Among Traditional Medicare Beneficiaries. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Home health visits and episode length fell after PDGM, especially for beneficiaries with dementia. Therapy visits drove much of the decline, and the largest reductions appeared in advanced dementia. This is service use, not proof of harm. PT OT SLP RN Cohort 2026 Applying the Brief Interview for Mental Status in a Diverse Home Health Patient Population.
