RN Survey 2026 Psychological Outcomes of Family Members Related to a Loved One's Resuscitation in the Emergency Department: A Cross-Sectional Study. Journal of advanced nursing Family members who witnessed a loved one's resuscitation reported more post-traumatic stress symptoms than those who did not. Most still wanted to be present, often for religious reasons. This is an association, not proof witnessing caused distress. RN Qualitative 2026 A model to assist psychiatric nurses in facilitating support of parents who are caring for an adolescent with a mental disorder. Curationis Parents of adolescents admitted to a psychiatric unit described grief and anxiety and said services gave little guidance. Psychiatric nurses have an expert-evaluated three-phase model to structure support, but it was not tested. RN Cohort 2026 The Influence of Social and Psychological Factors on Cognition Among Liver Transplant Recipients. Progress in transplantation (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) Fourteen of 23 liver transplant candidates scored below average on cognition. When age and education were considered, higher depression and anxiety scores were linked to lower cognitive scores. Social vulnerability was not linked to cognition. Cognition did not change significantly over 12 months. RN Other 2026 Impact of a Volunteer-Delivered Spiritual Care Strategy on Preventing Post-Intensive Care Syndrome-Family in Relatives of Critically Ill ICU Patients: A Quasi-Experimental Study. Nursing in critical care Trained volunteers delivering three structured spiritual care sessions by video call were associated with lower PTSD symptoms in ICU family members at 3 months. Anxiety and depression showed no clear difference. RN Survey 2026 Anxiety, Social Support and Coping Strategies in Patients Undergoing Maintenance Haemodialysis. Nursing open Haemodialysis patients who reported more social support and problem-focused coping had lower trait anxiety. Emotion-focused coping was associated with higher trait anxiety. The study cannot show which factor came first. RN Other 2026 Women and TB/HIV coinfection in Brazil: regional inequalities and trends in a scenario of vulnerability. Revista brasileira de enfermagem TB/HIV coinfection in Brazilian women did not rise or fall in any region from 2012 to 2023. Cases concentrated in younger, less-educated women; Black women were most often reported in four regions, and the South had the highest treatment abandonment and drug resistance. Quality of life linked weakly to mental health knowledge only, and nursing care ratings were mostly unrelated. RN Cohort 2026 Effect of Substance Abuse on Suicidal Behaviors Among People Living With HIV: 11-Year Cohort Study. The journal of nursing research : JNR People living with HIV who also had substance abuse disorders faced nearly twice the risk of suicide compared to those without substance abuse. Sleep disturbances, rather than depression, mediated a significant portion of this increased risk. The Journal of school health School-based clinics in California expanded significantly between 2011 and 2023, with mental health services driving growth in non-medical clinics. Access remains concentrated in urban, high-need schools, leaving rural and elementary students with fewer options. RN Other 2026 The Impact of a Home Visiting Program on First-Time Parents' Parental Self-Efficacy in Norway and Associations between Parental Self-Efficacy, Depressive Symptoms and Perception of Sleep. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) Mothers showed no difference between groups in parental confidence. Fathers in districts with nurse home visits added to standard care had a small 3.58-point higher score at six weeks, but not at three months. RN Qualitative 2026 Knowing to care: life stories of adolescent survivors of suicide attempts in a Brazilian metropolis. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Twelve adolescent survivors described attempts as impulsive responses to anger, grief, family conflict, bullying, and feeling misunderstood. Nurses can listen for these themes in care. This is not evidence that listening prevents attempts. PT OT RN Cohort 2026 Weekly Walking Attenuates the Association Between Frailty and Depressive Symptoms in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis. Research in nursing & health In adults with rheumatoid arthritis, frailty was linked to more depressive symptoms. Walking at least 3.5 days per week appeared to break this link. The association between frailty and depression was no longer significant in those who walked more frequently. RN Pilot 2026 Phone-based intervention for anxiety management in primary health care users: A feasibility study. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Nurses delivered a brief phone anxiety protocol to primary care adults; 1,171 eligible received it, scores fell 0.45 points immediately but not at 7 days, and no control group. RN Cohort 2026 Care Needs for Patients Screened Positive for Cognitive Impairment and Delirium: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study. Journal of advanced nursing On one audit day, 42.1% of hospitalised adults had possible cognitive impairment or delirium. Those with higher 4AT scores had more documented need for help with washing, dressing, toileting, eating and moving, and more incontinence, falls, pressure injury and nutrition risks. OT RN Systematic Review 2026 Delivering Palliative Care in Mental Health Nursing Settings: A Systematic Review. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing People with complex mental illness and dementia had very low access to palliative care, often lacked advance decisions, and needed familiar, continuous settings. Nurses may under-rate dementia symptoms. RN Cohort 2026 Proximal Risk of Suicide-Related Behavior in Black Youth With a Parental History of Mood Disorder. Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association In Black youth with a parent who has a mood disorder, a current diagnosis of depression and younger age were the strongest predictors of suicide-related behavior. Irritability and suicidal thoughts were also elevated, but only depression and age remained significant in the final model. RN Cohort 2026 Influence of Social Support and Quality of Life on Mortality Among Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis. The journal of nursing research : JNR In adults on maintenance hemodialysis, higher baseline quality of life and higher reported social support were linked to lower 3-year mortality. Nurses can ask whether patients can actually use available help, not only whether they have family or friends. OT RN Survey 2026 Dignity Among Older Persons in Long-Term Care Institutions in Taiwan and Related Factors: A Cross-Sectional Study. The journal of nursing research : JNR 48.9% of 188 older residents in southern Taiwan long-term care institutions reported low dignity. Fewer or no children, lower daily living independence, inability to walk, higher education, and depression were associated with low dignity. RN RCT 2026 The Effect of Preoperative Stoma Education Including a Wearable Dummy Stoma on Postoperative Stoma-Related Anxiety, Adjustment and Self-Efficacy: a Randomised Controlled Trial. International journal of nursing practice Preoperative stoma education using a wearable dummy stoma lowered anxiety at first stoma care and improved self-care confidence and adjustment for 6 weeks compared with routine brochure, verbal, and visual teaching. RN RCT 2026 Effectiveness of Virtual Reality Intervention on Anxiety and Vital Signs of Patients Before Colonoscopy: A Randomised Controlled Study. Nursing open Patients waiting for colonoscopy who watched a 15-minute VR forest video reported less anxiety and had lower blood pressure than controls. The study did not show a heart rate difference between groups. RN Survey 2026 Patient Activation in the Postpartum Period by Race, Ethnicity, and Spoken Language. Journal of obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal nursing : JOGNN Most postpartum women sought help when they needed it, but Spanish-speaking Hispanic women scored lower on patient activation. Nurses should tailor postpartum education and resources. RN Cohort 2026 Role of Sense of Coherence in Mediating the Relationship Between End-of-Life Caregiving Burden and Bereavement Depressive-Symptom Trajectory. The journal of nursing research : JNR Family caregivers who felt end-of-life demands were understandable, manageable, and meaningful were more likely to show low or resolving depression after bereavement in this observational study. RN Systematic Review 2026 Informal Coercion Experienced by Adolescents in Mental Health Care-A Systematic Review. International journal of mental health nursing Adolescents in mental health care reported subtle pressures: being silenced, pressured into treatment, threatened with more coercion, and controlled by rigid rules. They described distress, disempowerment and coping such as pretending wellness; one study also saw structure as protective. RN Other 2026 The Treatment Burden for Multimorbidity Scale: A Development and Psychometric Validation Study. Nursing & health sciences A 12-item scale for patients managing several chronic conditions scored consistently and matched other burden measures, but its two-part structure did not fit perfectly and needs more testing. RN Pilot 2026 Mindfulness meditation for pulmonary hypertension program development: Acceptability and feasibility of technology-assisted complementary health intervention for symptom self-management. Heart & lung : the journal of critical care Patients with pulmonary hypertension found a video-based mindfulness program acceptable and feasible, scoring high on usability. Video engagement was strong initially but declined over eight weeks, while app use for daily practice remained suboptimal. RN Survey 2026 The impact of fear of recurrence and progression on mental health after spontaneous coronary artery dissection: the role of illness uncertainty. European journal of cardiovascular nursing Among SCAD survivors, fear of recurrence was linked to depression and cardiac distress, and illness uncertainty was linked with stronger relationships for those outcomes. It did not show a stronger relationship for anxiety in the main analysis. RN Cohort 2026 Effects of risk management plus predictive nursing on adolescents with non-suicidal self-injury behavior. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P In hospitalized adolescents with non-suicidal self-injury, adding risk management and predictive nursing to routine ward care was associated with fewer self-injury incidents and better mood, quality of life, and social function over 12 months. RN Other 2026 A Point Prevalence Study of the Provision of Palliative Care for Adult Inpatients With Mental Health Issues. Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Most adult mental health inpatients identified as potentially benefiting from palliative care had no evidence of referral or care provision. Older adult wards contained most of the patients with potential palliative care needs. RN Survey 2026 The Effect of Alexithymia, Metacognitive Beliefs and Self-Efficacy on Disability in Patients With Schizophrenia: A Cross-Sectional Study. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Young adults with schizophrenia who had more difficulty identifying emotions and unhelpful beliefs about thinking also reported more disability and lower confidence. Beliefs about thinking were linked to disability even when difficulty with emotions was considered; difficulty with emotions was linked to lower confidence. RN Survey 2026 Difficulties Experienced by Nurses in Psychiatric Hospitals During the Transfer of Psychiatric Inpatients With Physical Complications to General Hospitals: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study. Nursing open Most psychiatric nurses reported difficulty transferring patients to general hospitals, citing stigma and unclear roles. Regular information sharing about specific patients reduced these difficulties, but routine cooperation meetings between hospitals did not. RN Systematic Review 2026 Wearable Electronic Monitoring of Vital Signs in Hospitalised Adults: A Nursing Focused Scoping Review of Clinical, Economic and Implementation Outcomes. Journal of advanced nursing In hospital wards, wearable monitoring was reported to detect deterioration earlier, but benefits depended on alert governance, training and response capacity. Nurses also described added device work, alarm fatigue and unclear savings. RN Qualitative 2026 Patients' Perceptions of the Role of Nursing in Substance Use Disorder Treatment Programs: Qualitative Study. JMIR nursing Patients in substance use rehabilitation valued nurses for listening, emotional support, and trust. They often did not recognize nurses' technical tasks and confused nurses with doctors or social workers. RN Other 2026 "We're All in This Together": A Mixed-Methods Study of Provider and Patient Perceptions of Emergency Care for Opioid Use Disorder. Journal of advanced nursing People with opioid use disorder described avoiding emergency care due to fear of judgment and pain dismissal. Providers reported feeling helpless and unsafe. Both groups agreed addiction is a disease, but disagreed on whether naloxone changes behavior or if disclosure is honest. RN Systematic Review 2026 Fears and pre-colonoscopy anxiety: a scoping review. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Across 24 studies, patients awaiting colonoscopy most often feared diagnosis, pain, and complications. Anxiety was most often linked to knowledge or information, previous colonoscopy experience, and gender. RN Survey 2026 Predictors of Filipino Life Satisfaction Using the Revised Filipino Satisfaction With Life Scale. Nursing research The revised Filipino Satisfaction With Life Scale scored consistently as one overall measure in 694 Filipino Americans. Higher satisfaction linked to older age, female sex, partner support, lower stress; PTSD and other medical conditions linked to lower. RN Other 2026 How Does Symptom Management Affect Quality of Life in Palliative Care Patients? A Descriptive and Correlation Study. Scandinavian journal of caring sciences Palliative care inpatients had high symptom scores and low quality of life. Pain, breathlessness, fatigue, anxiety, depression and feeling unwell were common. Higher symptom scores were linked to lower quality of life, but no treatment was tested. RN Narrative Review 2026 Exploring the Intersection of Rare Diseases and Mental Health Within the Diagnostic Odyssey: A Narrative Review and Thematic Synthesis. Nursing open People living with rare diseases described distress, stigma and fragmented care during the diagnostic odyssey, alongside resilience and hope. Nurses should ask about mental health, explain uncertainty, and coordinate care rather than leaving it to patients. RN Cohort 2026 Triggers, Responses, and Outcomes for Patient Related Violence and/or Aggression Events During Acute Hospitalisation: A Documentary Analysis. Journal of clinical nursing Acute ward Code Grey calls for patient aggression were often triggered by agitation, wanting to leave, wandering and confusion. Physical and chemical restraint were common responses, while reported injuries were few. RN Other 2026 Association of dietary energy and protein intake with frailty among patients with cirrhosis and implications for nursing practice. International journal of nursing sciences Higher energy, protein, and animal-protein intake were linked to lower frailty in patients with cirrhosis. Thresholds were 30 kcal/(kg·d) energy and 0.83 g/(kg·d) protein. This is association only, not proof diet prevents frailty. RN Other 2026 Incidence and Risk Factors of Delayed Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting Among Adult Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study. Nursing open Among 326 chemotherapy patients, 34.7% reported delayed nausea or vomiting; anxiety, motion sickness and high-emetogenicity chemotherapy were significant risk factors. RN Other 2026 Time toxicity in chronic disease comorbidity care: A concept analysis using Walker and Avant's approach. International journal of nursing sciences Time pressure from appointments, medications, travel and costs was described as a persistent burden for patients with multiple chronic conditions, linked to poorer adherence, mood, caregiver strain and quality of life. No tested intervention is shown. RN Cohort 2026 Patterns of Daily Administration of Psychoactive Drug Classes for Distress Behavior in Dementia. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association In nursing home residents with dementia, antipsychotic and benzodiazepine administration rose sharply around documented distress behavior incidents and persisted 30 days; antidepressant and anti-epileptic classes did not show the same pattern. RN Systematic Review 2026 Mental Health Promotion Through Nursing Interventions Focused on Anxiety, Sleep and Well-Being: A Scoping Review. International journal of mental health nursing Nursing anxiety and sleep interventions were mapped across 64 studies. Sleep improvement appeared in 32 included studies and anxiety reduction in 25 included studies, but this scoping review cannot show effectiveness. RN Cohort 2026 Enhancing Community-Based Nursing Decision Support: Machine Learning Models for Diabetes Risk Prediction Using Home Health Nursing Notes. Public health nursing (Boston, Mass.) A machine learning model analyzing home health nursing notes predicted diabetes risk with high accuracy. Hyperlipidemia, dysuria, and dressing care were strong indicators, offering nurses a potential tool for early detection in home settings. RN Survey 2026 Development and Validation of the Lactation Psychological Needs Scale. Journal of human lactation : official journal of International Lactation Consultant Association A new 12-question scale may help nurses ask parents about breastfeeding/chestfeeding autonomy, competence, and connection. Higher scores were linked to exclusive breastfeeding and greater satisfaction; this was not a treatment trial. RN RCT 2026 Effects of Online Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Family Members of Individuals With Early Psychosis on Self-Stigma, Coping Strategies and Resilience: A Randomized Controlled Trial. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Family members of people with early psychosis who took eight weekly online ACT sessions reported lower self-stigma and higher coping scores after the program, and higher resilience at three months. This was a small single-site trial, so treat it as early evidence. RN Meta-Analysis 2026 Coping, Subjective Burden and Mental Health in Family Carers of Dependent Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Dysfunctional coping (avoidance, self-blame, venting, behavioural disengagement) was consistently linked to higher anxiety, depression and caregiver burden in family carers of dependent children. Emotion-focused coping was linked to fewer depressive symptoms, but the evidence was less stable. RN Other 2026 Effectiveness of a group nursing intervention in reducing anxiety and depression for smoking cessation: a quasi-experimental study in light of Afaf Meleis' Transition Theory. Investigacion y educacion en enfermeria In 15 smokers in a nurse-led cessation group, depression and state anxiety did not show a clear change, while nicotine dependence and trait anxiety scores fell. Most also used bupropion, nicotine patch, or gum, so the group alone cannot be separated. RN Cohort 2026 Family Anthropometric and Physiological Correlations With Parent- and Teacher-Rated Preschooler Socio-Behavioral Health. Journal of child and adolescent psychiatric nursing : official publication of the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses, Inc In Head Start families, higher parent BMI and lower skin carotenoids linked to more aggression and explosiveness in preschoolers. Counterintuitively, higher parent body fat and blood pressure associated with fewer anxiety and withdrawal behaviors. These correlations do not prove causation. RN RCT 2026 Effects of Patient-Preferred Music on Anxiety, Pain, and Quality of Recovery After Knee Arthroplasty Under Spinal Anesthesia: A Randomized Controlled Trial. Clinical nursing research Patients who listened to their own music through headphones during knee replacement under spinal anesthesia reported less anxiety after surgery and better recovery.
