WHAT IT FOUND

530 nursing care terms for older adults at home were identified; 460 matched ICNP, 70 did not.

They cover pain, falls, medication, bandages and palliative care. This is a terminology map, not proof of better care.

Key findings

01Of 12,365 extracted terms, 530 were considered useful for nursing practice with older adults living at home.

02Of the 530 useful terms, 460 (86.8%) were included in ICNP 2019/2020 and 70 (13.2%) were not included.

03The Focus axis had 302 of the 530 terms (57.0%).

What it does not show

The terms came from only two official documents, so the list may not cover all home nursing care for older adults. The study used documents only and did not involve patients, families, nurses, or clinical outcomes. Some terms were present in ICNP concepts but not as independent axis terms, which made classification inconsistent. The mapping does not test whether the terminology subset improves communication, care planning, or patient outcomes.

The easy way to misread this

Do not read the ICNP mapping as evidence that using these terms improves older adults' home care. The study analysed two documents and terminology equivalence, not patients or outcomes.
