Suicide, quality of life, and psychotropic medication use in women with breast cancer.

The study was cross-sectional, so it cannot show whether psychotropic medication use led to suicide risk or whether greater distress led to medication use. Participants were recruited from one mastology outpatient clinic in southeastern Brazil, so the results may not apply to other settings or populations. The sampling was non-probabilistic and the study was described as exploratory with 102 participants. Data were self-reported on sensitive topics, so psychological distress and suicide risk could be underreported or overreported. The association was reported for psychotropic medication use overall, so the contribution of benzodiazepines, antidepressants, or other medications cannot be separated. The study reports associations, not tested interventions.
