Hearing in Real-Life Environments (HERE): Structure and Reliability of a Questionnaire on Perceived Hearing for Older Adults.

The Finnish sample likely represented better-functioning older adults. Those who did not take part were older, more often perceived poor health, had more outdoor mobility difficulty, and may have had poorer hearing. The UK sample was small for the factor analysis, so some structure differences between samples could reflect sampling error rather than real cross-cultural differences. The test-retest and measurement-error results came only from the UK sample, not the larger Finnish sample. The UK sample was younger and had better measured hearing thresholds than the Finnish sample, so the cross-cultural comparison was not between fully matched groups. Speech-in-noise and SSQ comparisons were available only for the UK sample, so those relationships were not tested in the Finnish sample. The study did not show that HERE scores change after treatment, so the minimal difference values are not yet evidence of responsiveness to intervention. One socio-emotional question was missing from the English version, so analyses used 14 questions.
