Feasibility of an Online Resilience Program for Mothers With Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Hyeseon Yun, Eun Kyoung Choi

PMID 42312568

WHAT IT FOUND

Five mothers finished the online resilience program, with 97.5% session attendance and satisfaction 9.80 out of 10.

Resilience and positive parenting scores improved, but the small uncontrolled pilot cannot show the program works.

Key findings

01Five of six enrolled mothers completed the program, and completers attended 97.5% of sessions.

02Overall satisfaction was 9.80 out of 10, and all completers submitted both surveys with no technical issues.

03Resilience and positive parenting attitude improved significantly (both Z = -2.02, p = 0.043), while other outcomes did not reach significance.

What it does not show

Only five mothers were analysed, so the results are very small and cannot be generalised. There was no control group, so changes could be due to time, expectation or other factors. Participants were self-selected and all measures were self-reported, which can bias results. The principal investigator delivered the program, collected data and analysed it, which may introduce researcher bias. The pilot included only mothers with preschool children in South Korea, so it may not apply to other families or settings. The program combined lectures, group discussion, reflective writing, workbook activities and secure chatroom support, so the effect of any single component cannot be separated.

Declared interests

No conflicts of interest were declared. The National Research Foundation of Korea funded the study.

The easy way to misread this

Do not read the significant gains in resilience and positive parenting as proof the program works. Five mothers completed an uncontrolled pilot, and the authors say the findings are preliminary and hypothesis-generating.
