Families of adolescents and young adults with complex chronic conditions: socioeconomic impact after ten years.

Only 24 mothers or caregivers were studied, which was about 20% of the original group, so the findings may not represent all families. Many original families were not included because the child had died, the condition resolved, the family declined, or contact could not be made. The interviews included only 12 mothers, so the qualitative themes come from a small subset. The study looked only at mothers or caregivers, not at the adolescents or young adults themselves. It describes what happened over ten years in one Brazilian municipality; it does not test any treatment or care model. The study was conducted near the end of the pandemic emergency period, which may have affected household finances and healthcare access.

Do not conclude that these families became financially stable over ten years. Household income did not change significantly, and household size increased, so per capita purchasing power was under strain.
