WHAT IT FOUND

A 49-item questionnaire was built to assess Iranian male adolescents' health needs across physical, psychological, social and sexual areas.

It has not been tested for patient outcomes or outside Iranian school boys.

Key findings

01The qualitative stage identified four health-need domains for male adolescents: physical, psychological, social and sexual.

02The final scale retained 49 items across four constructs: social health needs (13 items), psychological health needs (20 items), sexual health needs (4 items) and physical health needs (12 items).

03Cronbach's alpha was 0.73 before and 0.77 after construct validation, and test-retest stability was 0.89.

What it does not show

The sample was limited to male adolescents aged 13-18 in Tehran schools, so it may not apply to girls, other age groups, other countries, or adolescents outside school. Reliability and stability were assessed in only 25 male adolescents. No confirmatory factor analysis was performed. The paper reports scale development and psychometric testing, not patient outcomes or care results.

The easy way to misread this

Do not read this as proof that the scale improves adolescent health or that it can diagnose conditions. It was only developed and tested in Iranian male adolescents in schools, and no clinical outcomes were measured.
