RN Survey 2024 Prevalence of risk factors among adolescents who attempted suicide: a cross-sectional study. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Among 140 adolescents treated for suicide attempts, family conflicts, previous attempts, and self-harm were the most common risk factors. Mental disorders were present in over half. These findings guide assessment priorities but do not prove that targeting these factors prevents future attempts. RN Systematic Review 2024 Post-informal caregiver's perspectives and experiences of the support network: a systematic literature review and meta-synthesis. Revista da Escola de Enfermagem da U S P Adults who had stopped caring described support gaps after care ended: isolation, financial strain, grief, and services that stopped too soon. They wanted continued help, practical guidance, and community connection. RN RCT 2025 Patient-psychologist telemedicine interactions in an intensive care unit recovery clinic: Qualitative secondary analysis. Intensive & critical care nursing Some ICU survivors minimized mental health symptoms. In telemedicine visits with a pharmacist, physician, and psychologist, the psychologist used rapport, brief mental health screening, and coping strategies and education. RN Pilot 2025 Dyadic Comparison of Pain and Stress in Alzheimer's Disease and Caregivers. Pain management nursing : official journal of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses In five pairs of people with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers, caregivers tended to report more pain and stress than patients, and patient pain moved with caregiver burden. These small links do not show what causes what. RN Other 2025 Applying natural language processing to understand symptoms among older adult home healthcare patients with urinary incontinence. Journal of nursing scholarship : an official publication of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Only 29% of home healthcare episodes for older adults with urinary incontinence had symptoms documented in notes. Anxiety was most common, urinary symptoms rare. Episodes for Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Hispanic patients were less likely to have any symptoms documented than White patients. RN Pilot 2024 Evaluation of a Cohort-Based Healthy Aging With HIV Wellness Pilot Intervention: "People Aging and Thriving With HIV" in Colorado. The Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care : JANAC In older adults with HIV, weekly steps did not show improvement in this wellness pilot, and depression, physical function, quality of life, and social isolation also did not show improvement. Participants liked it, but the study does not show it works. PT RN Systematic Review 2024 Cultural Tailoring and Implementation Science for Cardiometabolic Interventions in Asian Americans: A Systematic Review. Nursing open Only three of nine studies in Asian American adults found significant weight, blood pressure, or A1C changes, although nine reported improvements in knowledge, self-efficacy, or behavior. Interventions varied widely, so no single culturally tailored approach is proven. RN RCT 2025 The Impact of Hospice Care on the Prognosis, Quality of Life, and Emotional Well-being of Patients With Chronic Heart Failure. Journal of hospice and palliative nursing : JHPN : the official journal of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association For chronic heart failure, adding pain, comfort, sleep, psychological, spiritual and end-of-life education to standard care improved cardiac function, reduced anxiety and pain, and raised quality of life; daily living improved similarly in both groups. RN Other 2024 The Readability, Understandability, and Suitability of Online Resources for Ostomy Care. Journal of wound, ostomy, and continence nursing : official publication of The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society Most patient ostomy care websites were written at a high-school reading level. They described it as a trusted space to be themselves and feel more whole. This was not a test of whether depression symptoms improved. RN Other 2024 An evolutionary concept analysis of depression in Black mothers. Archives of psychiatric nursing Depression in Black mothers often presents with anger, irritability, and self-blame rather than just sadness. These symptoms are linked to racism and stress but are missing from standard diagnostic criteria, meaning nurses and providers may miss cases if they rely solely on traditional checklists. RN Qualitative 2024 Healthcare needs and expectations of family members caring for mental healthcare users in South Africa. Curationis Family caregivers described physical, psychological, social, financial, educational and spiritual needs. They expected medication access, home visits and day care rehabilitation. These are caregiver reports, not evidence that services improve outcomes. RN Other 2024 Parents' Postnatal Sense of Security: A Concept Analysis. Nursing open Postpartum parents felt secure when their bodies were not threatened, they felt able to manage parenting, and trusted available support. Midwife encouragement, family help, infant health, and shared discharge decisions were linked to that security. RN Systematic Review 2025 Exploration of Effective Substance Use Relapse Prevention Programmes for the Youth: An Integrative Literature Review. Journal of psychiatric and mental health nursing Youth substance use relapse prevention programmes described in the literature emphasised continuing care after treatment: check-ups, monitoring, quick re-entry to treatment, recovery support, and tailored text or app-based follow-up. These are programme components, not proof an intervention works. RN RCT 2025 The feasibility of sharing digital audio-recordings of clinic visits online with older adults in primary care settings: A multisite trial. Patient education and counseling Older adults with diabetes and hypertension found online visit recordings feasible to use; 40 of 45 recording-group patients accessed recordings, and retention was 98%. Patients and clinicians reported recordings helped recall, but the trial was not powered to prove health benefits. RN Pilot 2025 The implementation and evaluation of a family-led novel intervention for delirium prevention and management in adult critically ill patients: A mixed-methods pilot study. Nursing in critical care No adverse reactions were reported when 15 mechanically ventilated ICU patients received recorded family voice messages, and median RASS was -1. Nurses found it acceptable, but this small pilot did not test delirium prevention. RN Survey 2024 Sleep quality of vulnerable elderly people: associated factors. RN Qualitative 2024 Nursing team's perceptions about care for pregnant women in a psychiatric unit. Revista brasileira de enfermagem Nurses working in psychiatric units describe their care for pregnant patients as routine and impersonal. They feel unprepared to address the specific emotional and physical needs of this group, relying on rigid protocols rather than individualized assessment. RN Narrative Review 2025 Contributing Factors to the Rise in Adolescent Anxiety and Associated Mental Health Disorders: A Narrative Review of Current Literature. Journal of child and adolescent psychiatric nursing : official publication of the Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses, Inc Adolescent anxiety is rising, and this review links it to biology, social media, family strain, school pressure, extracurricular load, and political or climate worry. Nurses can use these factors to ask targeted questions and counsel families. RN Pilot 2025 Examining the Feasibility and Acceptability of Identifying Signs of Social Anxiety, in University Students Aged 18-25, While Watching 360° Immersive Films. International journal of mental health nursing Seven healthy students watched immersive anxiety scenarios in VR headsets. Participants found the headsets comfortable but reported technical glitches and difficulty knowing where to look. RN Cohort 2025 Hope among patients discharged from an intensive care unit: A prospective cohort study. Nursing in critical care Hope stayed stable from 3 to 12 months after ICU discharge. Higher hope was linked to no prior mental health problems, fewer early post-traumatic stress symptoms and more social support. The nurse-led follow-up intervention did not improve hope at 3 months. RN Systematic Review 2025 Mental Health Services for Serious Mental Illness: Scoping Review of Randomised Controlled Trials. Nursing open Most randomised trials of mental health services for serious mental illness tested outpatient, e-health, ambulatory, residential, case management, discharge, education or assessment care. This map shows where evidence exists and where gaps remain, not which service works. RN Cohort 2025 Long-Stay Nursing Home Residents with Dementia: Telemedicine Mental Health Use during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Telemedicine mental health use was 7.1% among long-stay nursing home residents with dementia in 2021. Facility-level patterns stood out: homes with more Black residents used it less, and homes with more Hispanic residents used it more. RN RCT 2025 Effects of a self-efficacy-centered self-management program on neurogenic bladder after spinal cord injury: A randomized controlled trial. Japan journal of nursing science : JJNS A 12-week multi-component bladder program improved self-management, self-efficacy, vitality and mental health, reduced UTIs, lowered residual urine, and increased bladder capacity versus routine education and follow-up. The self-efficacy gain was small and seen only at 12 weeks. RN Survey 2025 Examination of Elder Abuse and Death Anxiety in Older Adults With a Chronic Disease. Nursing open In 200 older adults with chronic disease, 73% were at elder abuse risk and death anxiety was high (8.66 of 15). Higher abuse risk was linked to higher death anxiety, but the study cannot show abuse caused anxiety. RN Cohort 2025 Effects of Nursing Home Changes in Antipsychotic Use on Outcomes among Residents with Dementia. Journal of the American Medical Directors Association Nursing home residents with dementia did not have lower mortality or hospitalization when facilities reduced antipsychotic use. They had slightly higher risks for some outcomes and increased use of other psychotropic medications. RN Survey 2024 Are the effects of stress on antenatal depression mediated by self-esteem and moderated by social support?: a cross-sectional study. Women's health nursing (Seoul, Korea) Pregnant women with higher stress reported more antenatal depression. Lower self-esteem was associated with both stress and depression, and stronger social support was associated with a weaker stress and depression link. RN Cohort 2025 Association Between a Family Caregiver's Relationship to Persons With Dementia and Cardiovascular Disease by Race and Ethnicity: A Secondary Analysis of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Data. Western journal of nursing research Spouse caregivers of people with dementia had higher rates of diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and heart attacks than adult children or other relatives. Depression and smoking patterns varied by race. This is observational data; it does not prove caregiving caused these conditions. RN Cohort 2025 Association Between Antibiotic Exposure During Pregnancy and Postpartum Depressive Symptoms: The Japan Environment and Children's Study. Research in nursing & health Taking antibiotics during pregnancy did not remain linked to more postpartum depressive symptoms once other factors were considered. The small apparent link later after delivery may reflect distress during pregnancy, not the antibiotics themselves. OT RN Survey 2024 Network analysis of the relationships between depressive symptoms and social participation activities among Chinese older adults and its implications for nursing. International journal of nursing sciences Among 12,043 older Chinese adults, more social participation was linked with fewer depressive symptoms. RN Survey 2025 Factors Influencing Telehealth Satisfaction Among Liver and Kidney Transplant Recipients. Clinical nursing research Transplant recipients were generally satisfied with telehealth, but those less confident talking with providers and less comfortable using online health information were less satisfied. Better self-rated thinking and longer time since transplant also linked to lower satisfaction. RN Cohort 2025 Association between self-stigma and self-compassion in patients with schizophrenia: A longitudinal study from hospital admission to first follow-up after discharge. Japan journal of nursing science : JJNS Patients' self-stigma did not change from admission to first follow-up. Being more absorbed in illness was linked to more self-stigma. This is an association, not proof that reducing it lowers stigma. RN Meta-Analysis 2025 Non-Pharmacological Interventions Before Cataract Surgery for Preoperative Anxiety: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Nursing open Non-drug interventions before cataract surgery lowered anxiety, but the evidence was very low certainty and highly inconsistent. Do not treat any single technique as proven. RN Qualitative 2025 Exploring the Use of Sea Swimming as an Intervention With Young People With Mental Health Challenges: A Qualitative Descriptive Study. International journal of mental health nursing Young people in mental health inpatient care described sea swimming as more engaging than talk therapy, citing immediate calm and a sense of bravery from overcoming the cold. They valued the informal group setting for reducing power dynamics with staff. RN Systematic Review 2025 Construction of a bundle for the safety of patients with mental disorders during hospitalization. Revista brasileira de enfermagem A hospital safety bundle for patients with mental disorders groups care into safety culture, clinical decision-making, intervention planning and interpersonal violence.
